VERY rude phone call

Today my wife called the Saddleback Mountain RV park in Balmorhea, TX to see if there was an opening for our upcoming trip to NM. When the lady answered the phone, it was with "hello". My wife asked her if this was the Saddleback Mountain RV park, at which time the lady said "we don't have any openings" and hung up. My wife didn't even have the time to give her the dates that we wanted to stay.
Well, we won't be staying at this park. We go where people want us and spend our $$$ there.
Just makes me mad...

Agreed. You would have had a terrible camping experience there. We can usually tell what kind of experience we're going to have by the initial phone call.

Jf you up in the southern part of B.C. Canada, you may want to check out a funky campground that is called " The Rocking River Campground " It is the most unique place that we have ever stayed at. It was going to be an overniter but 3 days later we were still there. There are no indoor showers and only one outside and there only outdoor toilets. This is what is unique about this place,is the toilets as each one has a theme and are extremely clean. We found it awesome to make a bathroom tour and see how they are each decorated.

The nice part is you are not slotted into a "site" you get to park in an area that is good for a number of units if you are traveling together. Each "site" is named and it pertains to what is decorating your area (tractor site, dinosaur site, and list goes on)

Well worth the stay, just a mile East of Salmo, cross the bridge and turn right off of Hwy #3. Wayne and Sue are fantastic hosts and the take you for a tour and let you pick your own site. ENJOY

Post your comments on www.campgroundreviews.com being curious I looked them up on the park review site and found that although they didn't have 10's they had only one 5 and the rest were better then the 5. Must have really been a bad day for the person who was rude to you. I would call the place back and talk to the manager to let them know what happened. Be sure to give them the date and time.

I woud like to add that if you like the park or really need it, a second try might be worth the time.

We had a similar experience as the OP for a highly recommended campground in Sedona...but upon the second try, we found the office staff was just having a "run" on the counter/gift shop cashier.

They were very sorry for the "nature" of the first call...and once we were there, we had a WONDERFUL visit.

Best of luck!

According to their website the owner's name is Ellen Weinacht. I would think that is who you would like to talk to.

We stayed there in Jan. on the way through to Tucson and it is pretty much a gravel area with FHU. Very close to 10 and no more than a overnight. We called as we were approaching and they had 3. It seems many of their sites were taken by oil field workers. The State park is more out of the way but a little nicer.

Maybe there was a fire on the stove, or a person running around with a knife, or a multitude of other things.

IMHO, your reaction was on par,
