WA Cascade Loop and OR Beaches Trip Report

Here's the first trip report from our August vacation. It's so hot and smoky back in CA we are wondering why we came back! We hope you enjoy the journey with us.

Thanks, ProfDan! We are off to CA beaches now, but I plan to get out a post at least once a week. Take care!

Always enjoy your posts. We are heading to Seaside, Newport and Florence during the next 3 weeks before heading south. Interested if you’ve ever traveled south on 395??

Just spoke with family in spokane and Seattle Wa , and Oregon Valleys portland, corvallis . Health advisories almost state wide Starting last night and Thick smoke with winds pretty much everywhere. Power shutdowns in Portland area (Daughter without power since yesterday and camphosts at detroit Oregon had to abandon their motorhome that wouldn't start ( Presumed total loss )
Before you Go I'd check the status. hopefully it will clear up soon but its prime season for fires. Unfortunately Oregon and Wa seem to be hit along with Ca.

Wow, looks like we got back to CA just in time. We really enjoyed the clear skies and temps in the 60’s (coast) to 80’s (mountains) while we were there.

It so sad that to hear about the troubles people are having. I agree that it’s so important to be aware of the weather and conditions along your route.

We had to adjust a few days of our current trip due to the fires, but we are looking out over the Pacific right now with fresh air and the fog rolling in with temps in the 70’s. The nice thing about having a second home on wheels is that we can move it any time we want to.

Wishing you safe and happy travels!

My favorite areas of OR! Years ago, before our motorhome years, we would meet family at Honeyman Dunes for an annual tent camp out. We have so many great memories of those times, sitting around the campfire at night, and riding ATVs. Enjoy!

We have yet to tour 395 in our motorhome, but plan to one day. We tend to drift towards the beaches more than the mountains, but that is really beautiful country. If you go, I’d love any tips on where to stay and what to do!

Nice write up.
Just made that loop last week. Hwy20 North Cascades, Winthrop, Wenatchee, Blewitt Pass, I-90 to Lake Easton, Olympic Peninsula.
Most enjoyable. Anyone interested in this drive should note Hwy20 is not for the faint of heart, and E Washington currently has a high fire danger alert with heavy smoke closing many roads intermittently.

Off to the Washington coast tomorrow to escape the smoke and heat.
Happy Trails
