Ask them........

Alternate parking...

"Going to visit the wife's sick bro east of ABQ"

On more than one occasion I've sought out area churches -- both for parking just my 4-wheeler (while at a conference nearby) and with our motorhome when we had a mechanical issue several years ago. Granted, I'm a retired Lutheran pastor (NALC), however, even prior to having our own RV, at one of my churches (just off the interstate) we even posted on our FB page that we had ample parking lot space for travelers to utilize. As long as you communicate your situation, especially your current need, I can't image any pastor denying use of the church parking area... perhaps would even allow you to park near the building -- some also have surveillance cameras -- a big plus.

We got permission from a Wal-Mart Manager in Ohio to stay the night. A little after 10pm a rent a cop night watch guy knocked on our door and said we have to leave. The Walmart we were at doesn't allow overnight stays. When I told him the manager said, he stated that was the day manager, she was wrong, and he would call the cops to have me removed. To avoid any problems, we left.

Every Wal Mart that I know of that do not allow will have signs up saying no overnight parking. I doubt very seriously they would two or have security approach you if they don't have it posted. How would you know?

Further what time did the Wal Mart close? How would they know you were going stay overnight as it was only 10:00 PM? How long had you been there?

I know it is courtesy to to go ask the Manager, but that is what the signs are for. We asked a Manager once when they had signs saying no overnight parking, but we had spent like $150 on stuff 1st so we had a receipt. He told us it would be okay as long as we stayed at the back; we had no problem. We got there late enough where I am sure it was the Night Manager though.

I generally use common sense after the old eyeball test. I have pulled in some Wal Marts where I could have camped overnight; but kept on going. The area just did not look safe to us.

East of ABQ

I live in the ABQ area, and traveled east of ABQ on 40 a lot. If the Walmart you are looking at is in Edgewood you should be fine with permission. “We” are happy to have the balloon fiesta again this year, but it does make travel tougher, and some businesses will post signs to avoid folks trying to free camp. I hope your BIL is doing well, and all goes well with your trip!

Like others have said: Do your homework, make some calls. Ask for the manager or assistant manager and explain who you are and give them the dates, details, etc. then ASK permission.

Then, when you get there park in an out of the way area and go in and introduce yourself, thank them for letting you stay and reciprocate by spending some money in the store. I have NEVER been turned down when I have done the above!

In today's world, sad to say being what it has become since 2019, maybe better to say "what would you think if you returned, and found TT was no longer there?"

I just moved away from Abq after 15 years. The airport long term parking area is where I'd leave my own rig. Safe and staffed 24 hrs. You can even park so they can see your rig from the pay booths. Multiple days are no problem and the daily rate is cheap. You can't sleep in it, though.

Another option is Isleta Casino south of Abq. You'd want to call first, due to the Balloon Fiesta crowds.

Have you thoroughly examined the driveway snd possible problem areas? Unless they packed everything in on mules when the place was built, trucks had to make it in and out on that driveway. An F-350 with a 26' trailer should be able to navigate it too. Just a thought from someone who traveled a lot of forest service "roads" with a travel trailer in tow.

Best idea offered so far. We have done this also, except our situation was motorhome pulling a toad. Needed to leave the motorhome while we drove the car to a destination for a few days. Airport longterm parking is cheap, as noted, and very secure.

Gammel,
I live in that same area east mountains of ABQ and have ample room if you'd like to drop it off at my place for a couple/few hours. It's flat and I used to park my Newmar diesel coach on the side of my drive.

There is the most logical response I've seen. I was going to suggest to the OP that he ask if there was anyone on here or knew someone who lived in the area who would be willing to help.
