Here in Florida, my favorite is Bryn Mawr Ocean Resort on St. Augustine Beach. Easy access and it's right on the beach. Located close to all the attractions.

We looked at that campground but the disadvantage I see is that the restaurants and "things to do" are quite a drive away. I heard they also do not allow RV's older then ten years? Other then that I would like to stay there one day and kayak on the Back Bay.

It is about a 10 minute drive to the boardwalk but we really like to be away from the rat race of the downtown area. And there is some nice ma and pa restaurants in the sandbridge area

Not a huge fan of private campgrounds, but a few we have found that we liked are:
Ocean Waves campground, Waves, NC - campground is behind the dunes, short walk to beach. Paved sites, pool, close to restaurants, etc.
Ocean Waves Campground
Sands of Time, Avon, NC - located a couple blocks back from beach. Quiet old time campground, not much for kids to do, but very reasonable. Also a Passport America park.
Sands of Time Campground - Home
Pinegrove Campground and Waterfowl Park, Chincoteague Island, VA. - located in town but a short drive through the wildlife refuge to the Assateague Island National Seashore. Very quiet park, not well known to most campers as they tend to go to Maddox or Tom's Cove.

When I lived in Virginia we used to go to Chincoteaque Island twice a month in the Summer. Love that place. We used go stay at Tom's Cove but I know about Pinegrove. Nice place.

Hello ChrisinNJ,
I think we met while at Virginia beach! I was there with my RV Club. Your comment about your husband enjoying metal detectors makes me think you must be who I met. We were at the beach near you and your family on the day your husband was metal detecting! Just thought I'd say hello. We've already discussed all of the beach campgrounds that I know about😄. By the way, we went to the outer banks after leaving Virginia beach and had a very nice time at camp Hatteras RV Resort. Right on the beach and also they have sites on the sound side. Definitely should be added to your list of places to visit. Take care and happy travels! Jeff

Boy, that's a tough question... All beach camping is fabulous. My favorites:
Myrtle Beach State Park: small sites but steps from beach.
Fort Desoto state Park, FL: voted best beach in U.S. a few years ago.
Gulf Shores State Park, AL: close to my house... And my heart.
Peninsula State Park, WI: hey, Lake Michigan has beaches too!

Hi Jeff! It was great meeting you and talking to you and your friends. I am glad you had a nice time in the Outer Banks. We are looking into that campground for a future trip. We had a nice time in VA beach, and we will probably visit the Holiday Trav L park again. Now that school is back in session we are done with out travels for this year, but I am looking forward to planning for next year! Happy Travels to you and your wife too!
