We plan to stop first at the FMCA Rally in Georgia and then head to Florida after (March 16 or so). A couple days we will stay with friends in various spots but plan to be there until maybe late April. No reservations yet so, when do spots start opening up?

I find the snow birds move north just in time for the spring breakers to fill up the campgrounds. About the middle of April there are spaces everywhere.

Mid to late apr. Most private campgrounds go to thier discounted rates around 1 may. They go to disounted rates ( or as those of who lived in florida call them, normal rates) because most all the snowbirde have gone home.

Pretty much there is a mass exodus on April 1st. A ton (maybe most) Canadians leave. It's remarkable the number of Ontario plates on I-95N.

Anyhow.... it's a safe bet you can find a place most anywhere you want after March 30th. Before then - maybe.

A lot of the US snowbirds will leave by Easter. So by then (4/21 in 2019) you can be sure a lot of parks will be mostly vacant.

A couple years ago we were in the Keys the last half of February thru the first week of March. Woke up the morning of March 1 to see lines of RVs going out the gate. We thought we’d missed some sort of disaster evacuation. Thank goodness it was just part of the snowbird migration!

LOL, if anyone is traveling through Wyoming, I wouldn't advise doing so until mid May.

Heck, sometimes we have snow on Memorial day weekend. LOL

Update: this past weekend we were headed back home (Charlotte NC area) from a long weekend at Hanna Park near Jax FL. Wow! The traffic on I-95 was unbelievable. Five different times between Jax and Lake Marion in SC we were slowed to a crawl of 10 - 25 mph for around 8 to 10 miles simply due to merging traffic. No accidents, just extremely heavy traffic. Every RV park I called in the area was fully booked. The one we found in Santee SC we were in the last available site. Lesson: avoid the end of a month during snowbird time! Or avoid I-95. Sunday we came on home using the old US highway that was used pre interstate system. Good road and NO traffic.

Here at a local RV Resort in Gulf Coast Alabama there has been a steady amount of snowbirds heading North. Plus there is a steady stream of them from South Florida coming in for a few nights before heading further North.

A good friend of mines parents were snowbirds when he was a child. He said his father would watch the birds gathering on the telephone wires. He said they left to come home to Canada when the birds left. The birds know to ride the warm winds back to Canada. Don't know if others use this method, but I found it interesting.

We were traveling south from Ohio to southern Kentucky on I-75 last Saturday. We saw a steady stream of RV’s headed north.

last monday (april 1) i had to go down to the mesa / phoenix area and i have never seen so many rv's travelling north on az hwy 87! all with license plates from canada or the northern states. i figured the monthly rentals expired at the end of march and they had to be out of the parks by april 1. plus spring training has ended so those people are leaving. there must be tons of rv spaces now available in mesa.

I can’t help but wonder, why so soon? I must be missing something?

I’m a native born southerner, now living in Ohio. We’re retiring next year and hope to be snow birds soon after. I don’t see us hitting the road north until May at the earliest. What am I missing? :-)

If you are a Canadian citizen and have health insurance, there are limits on how many days you can stay out of the country and still have health insurance. Some people rent for only four month contract then move north to a cheaper location. Also, many want to be home for Easter. Lost of reasons to get out of the masses and humidity.
