Where to spend the winter in Texas?

Looking for a place to winter in Texas that caters to the active 55+ camper. Need to stay busy for three months. Got any suggestions?

Canyon Lake in the Texas hill country, central to Austin, San Antonio Riverwalk, Kerrville, Fredericksburg, Enchanted Rock, Guadalupe River, Comal River.

The chamber has a winter Texan reception.

The warmest area is the Mission and McAllen area. The hill county and along the coast can be cold at times. We stay in Mission at Bentsen Palm Village. There are a lot of activities there. It is about 1 1/2 hour drive to South Padre Island. Many times it is 10 to 15 degrees warmer at Mission than the coast depending on the direction of the wind. We have stayed at the same park for three winters and are staying there this winter.

Agree...we stay at Mercedes TX about 30 miles closer to South Padre, than Mission. That entire stretch is RV parks and resorts. This will be year 5 for us. Our park is huge, I call it Disney World for gray heads. There is so much todo, it’s mind boggling

Mission is a good area. But, if you plan to winter there you better get started now.

Last Jan, we stayed at Mission Bell RV in Mission, TX. They have a wood shop, sew room, pool hall and large dance hall, all for about $450/month. There are many things to do in the RGV area to keep snow birds as busy as you want to be. There are so many CG's in the area with vacancies that finding a site should not be a problem, even up to the last minute.

The Rockport area is very nice and more scenic than Mission and that area.

If you want a good location for going in all directions from the south, San Antonio is a good area. We stayed a week at Traveler's World. It is south of the city with easy access to the interstate for day trips, easy drive into the city, and close to the mission trail.
