Where would you go??

Thank you for all the advice! Yes, we plan on doing some traveling after we hit age 62, but we want a "home base" near the children and grandchildren. I've never driven out west - to yellowstone, etc. We have MANY places we'd like to visit. We just don't want to experience any more cold winters. It would be so nice to NEVER have to winterize our motorhome and to be able to travel in it all year around!

Why not choose Louisiana. Big cities and lots of small towns and countryside. Property taxes are low, lots of history, good food, friendly people.

Just one negative about being in central or south Florida if you are planning any traveling is that it takes a while to get out of the state. From Orlando, you'll drive for 3 hours or so to exit the state to the north and 8 hours or so to exit to the west. It's like living at the end of a dead end street. We often talk about moving at least as far north as Lake City (we are in Orlando now) when we retire so that we can get to other places quicker.

Hi Born2RV,
I live near West Palm Beach (South Florida). It is 330 miles to the Georgia boarder (I95), 370 miles to the Georgia border (I75) and almost 690 miles to the Alabama border. This may seem like a long "commute". However, one needs to determine how often the route will be traveled. For me, it is once out and once in per year. Now that doesn't seem too bad. We leave in June and do not return until October/November. During the winter, we travel the state of Florida, to a variety of activities. In the winter, it is way too cold to leave Florida.

What about central Georgia - the northern suburbs of Atlanta? That would give us all the "big city" life we want - and close to major freeways for travel. It looks like property is reasonable. I wonder how their taxes are??
