Willow Beach, Arizona: Can Recommend!

We took our new rig to Willow Beach, Arizona for four nights at Christmas and holy cow is this place wonderful! Quiet, calm, peaceful, and all the sites are good except for one right in front of the bath house.

They have several pull-throughs, but the back-in sites are also terrific. Full hookups, friendly camp hosts and gorgeous sunrises and sunsets along the Colorado River.

It's more expensive than a lot of camping sites, ($80/night for RVs and campers) but if you have a AAA card you get a tiny discount.

We checked out today and drove home to Vegas, and this was the sunrise that greeted us this morning...

Highly recommend!

Stayed there many times until the price got out of hand. Lots of other places to go that are less expensive and sometimes free if you like boondocking. I nolonger live in Vagas but did for 52 years. Let me know if you need some suggestions.

We have stayed there in the past, but it must have been a long time ago because it was MUCH less expensive! Absolutely lovely area, and you can enjoy just sitting by the water, looking at the mountains, and enjoying the view. There was zero cell service let alone data service when we were there. I’ve canoed the Colorado twice from the dam to Willow Beach too. Lovely part of the river.

For readers in other parts of the country, Nevada has zero must see camping destinations.

Why do you dislike Nevada so much? Valley of Fire State Park is pretty nice. Lake Mead is a destination also. The Nevada part of Tahoe, and don’t forget Great Basin National Park, among others. I guess someone with your user name just doesn’t like deserts, but a lot of us love them (though maybe not in summer). I have found lovely spots in every state we have ever visited.

Lots of places to camp in Nevada. Many are hidden gems in remote locations that are the kind I like. In my two cents worth of opinion Great Basin National Park is a great place for camping and hiking. If you come here and go to Vagas your missing the best parts of the state.

Yes it is pretty pricey! $72 a night for full hookups and that is with the AAA discount.

We're making modifications to REALLY be able to dry camp anywhere (switching to different batteries, a mack daddy power inverter, adding a 400-watt solar system, Starlink, etc) and YES definitely we are open to any and all suggestions! Thank you!

There's still zero cell service and the free wifi that the campground provides is pretty much a nonstarter. We have Starlink so our wifi is blazing regardless.

Well to each his own, but I will respectfully counter that by saying beauty is where you find it. You can find something wonderful in just about any place if you are open hearted.

Having lived all my life on the east coast and mostly in the southeast, certainly the southwest has a very different terrain and climate. That doesn't mean it's not beautiful and peaceful for camping.

Wow….that name brings back memories!
We would go there when I was kid.
Back then there was a small campground, boat launch, slips and the restaurant.

Because I do not like ugly!

This morning I went for my annual check up in Boulder City with the top down. I go out of the way because this is a pleasant little town compared to the urban cesspool called Las Vegas.

After I walked around the historic area, I drove down to Lake Mead and had lunch at the marina. Then I continued the loop back to the cesspool.

I enjoy this drive several times a month when in Lost Wages.

There are a lot of sail boats at Lake Mead but I do not sail there. I learned to sail in Newport RI when in the navy. Some beautiful camping in New England too. Lobster cooked on the campfire.

Lived on my boat for a few years in SF Bay. Now that is what I call beautiful.

For the last 30 years I have been sailing Wallula Gap because of the great wind.

Besides being beautiful, my slip is 1/4 of Lake Mead cost. It is a supply and demand thing.
