Wisconsin/UP/Michigan
Leaving Saturday from the Springfield, Illinois area and traveling up I-39 thru Rockford. IL., Madison, WI. to Antigo, WI. Then over the UP and back down the east side of Lake Michigan.
Will be in a 40' DP plus toad.
Looking for suggestions for decent rv parks along this way.
Thanks in advance.

I think you might have a tough time finding campgrounds open in the UP or Lower Michigan. Most close by the middle of October. It's getting cold up here. Check on RV Park Reviews. Good luck

We made the trip along Eastern Lake Michigan in June 2017... had a fabulous time!
1. Mackinac Island - Mill Creek Campground, Mackinaw City. Take the ferry over to the island and explore! Try the fudge in every store and then pick out your favorite. Grand Hotel is awesome, but there is an entry fee. We took the horse drawn carriage tour. You can walk, bike or go horseback around the island. NO VEHICLES...
2. Petoskey SP - Petoskey, MI. nice state park on the lake. You can find your very own Petoskey stones and/or purchase fine jewelry.
3. Sleeping Bear Dunes NP - one of our favorite areas. Great views of Dunes and lake! Close proximity to Fishtown, Traverse City, Wineries and Lighthouses.
4. Ludington SP - another State Park on the lake with nice beach. We also traveled down to Silver Lake and took the Mac Woods dune buggy tour.
I played golf at every stop and the wife fell in love with lighthouses... plenty of each to explore!

As was mentioned, many CG's in Michigan are closed or will be closing this weekend. Some we have used along Lake Mich are
Petoskey KOA - Petoskey MI
Poncho's Pond - Ludington, MI
Duck Creek RV Resort - Muskegon, MI
Covert/South Haven KOA - South Haven, MI
Eastpointe RV Resort - Grand Haven - MI
Trailway Campground - Whitehall, MI City owned park, has full hookups but not many additional amenities but very nice.
Definitely call ahead to see if they are open

Watch the weather, we are a couple hundred miles West in Grand Forks, ND and had 9F last night and 6" snow on Wed. Most CG will be closing down soon, so it's best to call ahead to check CG status. The color tour should be peaking this weekend in North Lower Mich, could mean lots of traffic. Most shore line roads are good to travel with a MH, follow "circle the lake" tour signs

Thanks all for the info. Much appreciated.
We made it to just north of Madison, WI. in a KOA. Very nice and $45. Called one down south of Madison and they wanted $73/night. Told them I just wanted to rent the lot- not buy it.
Looking forward to going down the east side of Lake Michigan next week. We've stayed at Ponchos Pond before- one of the nicest parks we have ever stayed at. Plan on hitting it again.

These guys are open through the end of November... haven't stayed there myself, but am familiar with the area and its a good half-way point across the UP.
