Would you pay $199 a night for this

Quote:
Finding it hard to make overnight reservations for your RV? Maybe “glamping” is edging you out. Washington State Parks has made an arrangement with a local “PDA” or public development authority, to have a share in breathing life into the state’s historic Fort Worden State Park. Now the Fort Worden PDA has floated a $2 million bond to construct 19 “glamping structures” at the park. Envision a wooden floor with canvas walls and roof. Of them, 15 will come with plumbing (including sink, toilet and shower) and electric heating. Construction is already underway, with glamping season at the park expected to run April through October. How much will glampers pay to stay in the luxury tents? The Authority is still working on that one, but figures range from $169 to $199 per night. More money than they’d be able to ask from you to rent an RV site.

Not that we are interested in 'glamping' but is this luxury??

I couldn't find the info in the link. There has been nothing on the local news about this. I live about 10 miles plus a boat ride from there.

I would call it camping in luxury tents.... mildew smell! I don't think I would call it glamping, as I see it that would be in a luxury Rv at a resort type place.

I would not. But I know a few city folks who would. Those same folks believe that noone should have an RV. Those are the same folks who would sue ove an encounter with a wild animal in the woods.

I own an RV but if I didn't and I was looking for something different to do and I didn't want to invest in a bunch of camping equipment, why not?

There are some KOAs around me that have cabins set up like hotel suites and you even get daily maid service plus all the park amenities. For some of them they are getting close to 200 bucks per night.

If I were in the RV I might book one for guests to stay in who don't necessarily like camping but want to join us.

It's not for me and clearly some of you but if someone wants to pay that and they enjoy themselves, have at it.

But isn't this site dedicated to people who camp in everything from pop ups to big ole Class As? Not much difference in a fully furnished tent and my RV.

Here's a link to a document detailing the proposal with more photos.

Stayed 2 nights in a yurt on the Olympic Peninsula a couple of years ago and didn't pay that much for both nights. It had heat and water but no bathroom.

Fort Worden State Park has beautiful beachfront camp spots much cheaper.... if you have your own tent or RV. Port Townsend is a neat little town. Lots to do in the summer and free noontime concerts right at Fort Worden.

From the FWIW department this room runs just a touch over $200 a day, west side Maui where we currently vacationing. Fort Wardens cool and everything, but hell no.
