We are staying in Yellowstone (Old Faithful) for the summer until Oct 1. If anyone has any questions during that time we would be happy to try and answer.
We have had some rain almost every day since getting here May 8. Rain slickers are hard to come by. This is one of the wettest May-June they have had in a long time. This following a lighter than usual winter snow pack. All roads in the park are open EXCEPT between Old Faithful and West Thumb where a bridge is being replaced. It is supposed to be open (one lane only) as of June 11. So there will be some delay coming from the South entrance. As stated above the stretch from Norris to Mammoth has a significant section under construction and WILL create delays. There also will probably be delays from BISON JAMS in various parts of the park. Have patience and enjoy the scenery.
Bison and elk are everywhere, no problem seeing them. Bear a little harder. We have seen two (a mom and cub) in the month we have been here. Wolves are harder to find. A lot of people mistake our large and healthy coyotes for wolves. Have not seen moose or mountain goats or pronghorns yet but haven't really tried.
As far as we know all routes in area are open even Beartooth highway.
We did stay at Grizzley in West Yellowstone on our way in. It it a very nice place with lots of pull throughs , big rig friendly and nicely maintained. There are several other parks in town but some don't look so nice. CG in the park all appear to have full signs, so if you don't have a reservation, good luck.
Temperatures currently are 60s during the day and 40s at night. Has popped into the 70s a couple days lately.
Sorry for the length of post.

Just returned from 4 days in grand tetons and 6 days in Yellowstone, the place is awesome. Loved every minute of it.

The weather in West Yellowstone has been great. It is around the high 70s to low 80s during the day and around the 40s to 50s at night. Comfortable. We are taking the upper loop tour in about an hour.

Glad you're having a good time! Any road construction issues?

Really good reading here. We are planning a trip east taking roughly the Oregon trail route with hopefully many side trips. We'd like to visit a yellowstone but don't want to nail down dates as we want to keep the trip loose for excursions. We do estimate arriving at yellowstone around mid to late August. What do you suppose the chances are of getting an RV site then with no reservation? Are there any options in the area for boon docking? We'd like to spend several days in the area. Thanks!!!

Just between Norris Junction and Canyon Village. About a 10-minute wait. Otherwise, no problems.

The one campground with full hookups in the park is Fishing Village and the chances of getting a campsite in mid-to-late-August without reservations is probably nil and none. They are expecting 3 million people this summer.

Incorrect, there is major road work being done between Mammoth and Norris. They work during the week and there may be a couple of stop delays. Weekends are better but it is 7 miles of torn up, gravelly roads and slow going. We did get our windshield chipped there.

Sir, I was asked if there were any road construction issues. The only one we experienced during two days of tours was the one I mentioned. So please don't tell me I am "incorrect". We can do without the snark.
