Don’t know if you’re still at the park, but how’s the traffic inside been? We’re now in Coty, then off to Grand Teton, and doing Yellowstone July 3-8.

We only get in on even days on the Spyder, odd days in the truck, if we want. It depends on the location, Midway Geyser, has been packed, we have not been able to find a parking spot in 3 tries for that. Ole Faithful, 6/22 parking was easy, but it was around 5pm. On 6/24 parking was tighter but around 1pm. On 6/26 we didn't do Ole Faithful; we did the Grand Loop.
We have done the Grand Loop twice once coming west from Fishing Bridge on 6/24. Then yesterday going east from Norris Geyser area. Noticed this area is allot less traffic compared to the road to Ole Faithful from Madison Junction.
We will be in Yellowstone on July 4th, we will be on our bronze Spyder, if you see us say Hi!! I really think the traffic on the west side of the park to be full. We have seen more animals on the east side. Yesterday we seen dozens of Bison, Deer, Elk, Moose. The Elk and Moose were near Yellowstone Lodge, actually across the road from there.
As a note here for anybody: watch the weather, not the weather channel, but the skies. On 6/24 weather station reported clear, 76, sunny. We got caught below Fishing Bridge toward West Thumb in a rainstorm. It would go from little sprinkles to nothing. After turning west on Grand Loop, it let loose. A downpour all the way back to West Yellowstone.

North Loop opened today!!!!!
According to the NPS this allows 97% of the roads to be opened. We went in at 9:30am and lite traffic at the West Gate.
Traffic around the North Loop was not too bad, heavy in spots, Mammoth Springs area was packed. The roads did not appear to have any damage to the surfaces, few patches in spots. Roosevelt gas station was closed, the road to Gardner at that junction was blocked off. Also, the road to Gardner from the Post Office. Visitor Center area was blocked off.
Gas at Canyon Village was $5.39/gal, diesel $6.59/gal. In West Yellowstone gas $5.09, diesel $6.09.
Animal count on the way:
Black Bear (1)
Brown Bear (2), we seen one but the traffic that was stopped was saying "there was a bear over there".
Elk (10-12) one was eating off a vine on the Post Office building!
Deer (5-10)
Antelope? (10 or so)
Bison (too many to count)

Thanks for the update. We head north from Grand Teton to West Yellowstone tomorrow. Had a quick glimpse of Yellowstone on our way down here from the east entrance.
The license plate system was ditched today, too.
Fingers crossed this holiday weekend traffic isn’t crazy. We’re at West Yellowstone only through the 8th.
The wildlife sightings in Grand Teton have been too numerous to count, including a mother bear and cub on one of our hiking trails, surprise around a bend. Yikes!
Oh and diesel at Colter Bay, where we have been staying, is at $6.76/gal. Ugh.

Watch the construction areas coming north from the South gate. Road is also rough in numerous spots. A couple of the construction spots use the portable traffic signals. Traffic around Fairy Falls and Midway Basin has always busy for us, use care thru there. The largest construction area is there at West Thumb.
What campground will be in at West Yellowstone? We are at KOA West Gate, the KOA closest to West Yellowstone.

Yep, we passed through those areas on the way down to the Tetons.
We’ll be staying at Grizzly in West Yellowstone.

Any comment on the hot spring area in the river near Mammoth? That used to be an awesome place for a soak. I would imagine it got redesigned quite a bit.

As teenager we would go up to Yellowstone from Casper just to do something
Spent many days as a youth exploring that park.
One day as a gag...
Large crowd gathered at Ole Faithful waiting.
We noticed a long T wrench for water valves so we snagged it, found a spot to stick it in the ground and then made a BIG Show of turning it just as Ole Faithful Began its eruption (it was pretty reliable back then)
Couple kids noticed us and motioned to their parnets who motioned to folks beside them.
As Ole Faithful reached it crescendo we started turning the T and 'closing' the valve.
When Ole Faithful died down we pulled the T and put it back by the small shed and walked away.
Waving as we went......
I'm sure many folks thought we controlled Ole Faithfuls geyser event.

Coming out of Mammoth, the big field on the left, there were several big Elk in there. While crossing the large bridge, we did see allot of debris left in the riverbed. Huge logs, and you could see some spots where it had cut into the riverbed.
Up on the top at the Mammoth Hot Springs, at Cupid Springs, Grass Springs and Canary Springs, all looked beautiful.
In the turnaround next to the Post Office & Justice Center, that is where the road to Gardner is blocked off, only employees and residents allowed.

I told Stephanie they forgot to turn the pressure back up the day we were there, since it took about 1hr and 45 minutes to erupt.

After seeing the photos of the damage caused by the river floods, I'm simply amazed that the roads around the park have been reopened so quickly.
A big THANK YOU! to all the folks who have worked so hard to get the park opened up again.

Allot of the side roads are closed, such as: Firehole Lake Road.

We departed Colter Bay at 9:30 this morning, budgeting 3.5hrs to do the 2.0hrs trip, in case of lines and construction and in park traffic.
By the time we got to Old Faithful turn out, we were way ahead of schedule because of no line at south entrance, no construction due to holiday weekend, and light traffic in the park.
We then decided to risk the parking situation at Old Faithful, which wasn’t an issue even with our 43’ 5th wheel, and we caught the eruption 15 minutes later. We then relaxed for almost an hour at the Inn.
And now we’re all set up at Grizzly.
Line at the west entrance was about 20 cars long at 1pm.
Some nasty storms moving through the area so we’re not sure we’re going to venture back into park today.
