Yuma Campgrounds
We'll be passing through Yuma in a day or two. Looks like lots of campgrounds but don't know where to start.
Does anyone have any favorites there?
Does anyone have any "Don't stay there under any circumstances"?
Is anyone staying in a campground there now (2/14/22) that might potentially have openings?

Which direction are you coming from or does it make a difference?
There are tons of RV parks as you can see from this Google Map. Many of them are along a freeway lateral.
I've stayed down by the river but I wouldn't recommend either Hidden cover or Riverfront park. Cocopah Bend RV park is on the river and is pretty nice. Lots of trees, lots of long term lessors. I've stayed at Foothills RV Park and it's nice. Liked it. My friend stayed across the freeway in the Fortuna RV Pk and liked that one too. They're all pretty much the same, pretty much all have tight spaces, most have bad Wifi, some are elegant, some are trashy. And most have the same outrageous pricing so I usually plan on staying a full month to get the daily cost down.
As we head into March, you shouldn't have trouble finding a place as the snow birds begin flocking north again.

RV parks can be found in all directions of the interstate. You stated that you're "passing through" so that doesn't sound like long-term. Take a look at this review site and pick one in your price range which gets fairly good reviews. You probably don't need a high-class 'resort'. There are also some on the California/Arizona border.

We stayed at Palms RV Resort a few times. Very nice. Easy in and out. Sites are good size. Pool is very nice with bar and happy hour. Just off I-8 east of town.

You are right about the sheer number of "campgrounds" in Yuma. Lots of them are just people's back yards that will accommodate a few rigs.
We stayed at the Palms last November. Very nice place with lots of amenities. Easy to get to off the interstate. Fenced in all the way around with staffed gate at the entry. The staff was very cordial.
Regards.
Chuck

Interesting fact I just discovered:
According to the World Meteorological Organization, Yuma (Arizona) is the sunniest place on earth

Except today
Moved our trip back a day. Predicted 40-50 mph winds and blowing sand.
Retired, no schedule. Don't need life threatening adventures anymore. Looking forward to the sun tomorrow.

We have stayed at Araby's Acres, since we are Thousand Trails members and use the Trails Collection.

We stayed at Fortuna de Oro a couple of years ago. Tons of activities and nice people, but really big (1300 sites or so). We have also stayed at Sun Ridge, much smaller (250 sites?), people also very friendly. Significantly less expensive. Most or all of these places are designed for long term stays so easy in/easy out is not high on the list of priorities. You can ge in, it just takes some wiggling (we are 40’). If you are just spending a night or two, pick about any of them. If you want a month(much less expensive that way), you need to take more care. CampgroudReviews.com is a good resource for checking out alternatives.

Thanks for the helpful comments. We ended up at Pilot Knob RV just west of town. Only $200/wk with nice wide sites. Away from hustle and bustle of a very busy Yuma. We would stay here again but rumor is it's been sold to Thousand Trails so may not be cheap anymore.
