2024 Total solar eclipse
We just reserved our spot in Waco, TX, for the total solar eclipse event in April 2024. Google the best viewing path for you area, or wherever. The reason I'm bringing this up is the normal rates have doubled for that week and availability is shrinking fast. In Waco, the CGs are already 75% booked and it's a year out!
Happy viewing wherever you go.

We have reservations just north of Garner State Park close to Uvalde along the path of totality, in that area the going rates are over 3 times the normal rate, with a 3 night minimum, making for about a $750 total

We are attending a eclipse rally in Kerrville TX.
We made reservations 4 years ago. Our group has 110 sites
reserved with a 4 page waiting list. We are fortunate the CG didn’t raise its rates. Good luck finding a place.

Hope to do 2024. Im planning to do a state park in ohio.

Thousand Trails Lake Whitney - near the I-35 split to go east thru Dallas or north through Fort Worth - will have four minutes and 17 seconds of totality.
Right where my TT sits in an annual site.
Normally that early in April, I'm at the Texas State Good Sam Rally a bit east of Dallas.
Even if cloudy, we get to experience totality. Something I've kind of dreamed about since the first time I heard what a solar eclipse was in elementary school in the 1950's.

We're thinking of going to Sulphur Springs, TX to watch the eclipse. I've heard it's a great place to view the eclipse, but I'm not convinced it's a prime holiday spot. We'll be passing through for only a few days, so it's not a big deal, but I'm looking at selection of different locations to camp for that time. Any suggestions?

We spent a night at a cheap RV park about 25 miles east of there last month, Ramblin Fever RV park, it is a passport america park, usual discount rates are $15 per night with PPA discount. Nothing special, gravel sites, nest to 4 lane highway a mile or so off I30. The place has a fair number of long term residents, but seemed ok overall, certainly good enough for an overnight stop, particularly for the price. I suspect they will jack up the prices for the eclipse like everywhere else, but maybe not too high, we are paying $700+ for 3 nights (3 night min stay) on the Frio river near Uvalde for the eclipse.
p.s. historical cloud cover data puts the chance of over 50% clouds for everywhere on the eclipse path north of about Waco. It does not get that much better even down at the Mexican border at only about 65%-70 chance of clear skies.

I would suggest if you want to see it - make plans early. I'm sure the Pilot and Loves in Sulphur Springs will have someone keeping traffic moving on that day - to have have their pumps blocked.
Shady Lake RV on Hwy 19 south west of Sulphur Springs should have 4 min 20 seconds of totality.
Hopkins RV farther south in 19 gets near 4min 20 seconds.
Directly on the center path at the East Tawakoni City Hall will get 4 min 21.5 seconds of totality.
But even Ramblin Fever north of I-30 in Mount Pleasant will get 4 min 0 sec.
The COE Waxahachie Creek Park will get 4 min 22.6 seconds. Near Ennis on Bardwell Lake - I-45 south of Dallas.
Buckhorn Lake Resort in Kerrville - on the center line gets 4 min 25.7 sec.

All of the Arkansas State Parks are booked already. I may have a shot at Gulpha Gorge in Hot Springs NP. Reservations there can only be made 6 months in advance. I will be taking a trip there in July to scout out sites.

I have driven by Gulpha Gorge, it is a small campground in the woods, not much chance of seeing the sun from there, though a mile or so away there are probably plenty of places.

I don't know if I want to go. Eh, what's the big deal. I would only be able to see a shadow of the real thing!
