FMCA Tucson not Canceled
Like others I received a letter stating they will not be canceling the Tucson convention. Big mistake. here is my response to that letter:
Your letter shows a complete lack of responsibility. How many FMCA members that attend are over say 65. ? How many likely have some sort of disease such as Diabetes? Maybe Copd. Maybe just a weakened immunity system. This is not a sporting event where at least half of the people are under 50. Many of the health people ( not some family Dr.) are saying that any gathering over 250 people should be canceled. Others are saying that figure is too high! Are you only concerned about the revenue for FMCA and the losses that will occur if you cancel. To leave attendance up to individuals is a "cop out". Today I saw a list of about 10 major music concerts that have been canceled. Most of these are for profit busineses and they clearly thought canceling was in the interest of the fans. You have decided that the health of your members is not your concern. Very bad decision.

I agree. Not only is the event itself an unnecessary close gathering of way too many at risk individuals, it will put those same at risk individuals in VERY close proximity in local restaurants, shopping and tourist attractions.
A really stupid idea to hold this gathering. Somebody at FMCA is definitely grazing in the funny weed here.

Holding an event does not force anyone to actually attend...

If FMCA is going into this with full ignorance than it's up to individual members to decide whether it is worth the risk. Something else your letter is saying without saying, they don't want to cancel so they don't have to give refunds. If the members choose not to go, it's of their own accord. By the way, I'm not a member.

I suspect FMCA will cancel if Arizona orders events cancelled like several other states have already done.
Unless Arizona orders it, I suspect FMCA will still have to pay the venue and all the vendors they have made contracts with.

Why should they cancel it? The CDC has not come out and said all gatherings need to be cancelled. So far all I've heard was to wash your hands often.

Sorry. But if they cannot afford to cancel does that mean it is OK to put there members at risk. usually things like this happen when big business only worries about profits. In this case it is a business masquerading as a non profit. I really do not think they contacted anyone for advice. Here is a link to a list of events being canceled in AZ

Mr. D: I suggest you watch some TV and listen not to the media but to the experts. The CDC is being controlled by politicians. The scientists and medical professionals as well as Professors from Harvard and other Universities disagree. They do recommend that people do not participate in large gatherings. I also suggest that everyone think about where we are today and see where we are in say 7 days.

I have a son who works at a hospital receiving C19 patients. I still go out in public, and will be on a trip in a week. I get my info from places other than a news outlet.

Fmca cancelled the Arizona event but kept everyone’s money (over $500).
Who does that?

I wont defend FMCA's decision to refund the Tucson fees but I can assure you it was not a simple decision. The quick spread of the pandemic forced a very late decision on FMCA to cancel. By that time, many pre-paid commitments were made to vendors and service providers--most were likely not refundable. Perhaps not ideal, but folks did get a "chit" for a future FMCA event at no additional cost.
