Miramar Air Show Cancelled

They pulled the plug late this morning...was scheduled for this Fri-Sun.

There are often lots of RV'ers here and last year the USMC set-up a special camping area by the RV lot, where the stables used to be.

Sequestration cancelled the Blue Angels months ago...now the self-supported all civilian version of the airshow was cancelled too.

A real 11th hour change.

Safe travels

As retired Army, you will love this...

Base C.O. was called by the Under Secretary of Defense 1 Day before the show was to start. The Under Sec told the CO that due to the gov't shut down, the airshow did not meet the DOD's expectation for the shutdown.

I am not making this up.

Seems to me that the appointees of the current administration did not like the USMC Can-Do attitude. Local reporters could not get any more specific answer...just do a quick internet search -tons of discussion about it. Too bad because profits from ticket sales go to MCCS programs for military families.

To keep us on the RV theme, attendees were refunded for tickets pre-sold and the RV camping area was closed - sorry folks. Hope no one had traveled too far to attend.

First time in 60 years that Miramar didn't have an annual airshow.

Safe travels

This year it should be back to normal. Many say it is the best airshow in the US.

For 2014, it is Oct 4-5: Welcome to the Miramar Air Show

The Marine spin is that there is a whole bunch of stuff that happens on the ground...called Celebrating the Marine Air-Ground Task Force.

Safe travels

Seems like that should beat the budget makers and have it in September. I like the idea that the set up an RV area for us that are attending. JMHO.

I've been out for awhile so anytime I can hang with Marines sounds like a good time. I went to the Miramar website, it didn't mention anything about RV parking at the airshow.

We live in Oregon, but will absolutely include this in our travels.

I do not have details on the temporary RV park that they placed where the stables used to be...but, anyone could contact MCCS. But be aware, it was dry camping.

The RV lot managers might be working on that...or someone could suggest it:
MCAS Miramar Vehicle Storage

Safe travels
