Oshkosh

I wonder if anyone is going to EAA in oshkosh this year(2010)? I will be leaving WIT rally in Forest city, Iowa and going to Oshkosh. I have not made RV registration yet and wonder if its better to stay on the grounds of the show or choose a campgroung farther away?

OMG Would I ever love to go to Oshkosh! Maybe one of these days ... and then again I'd also love to see the Reno Air Races.

We are registered and will be dry camping on the grounds. Looking forward to it. This will be our first time.

Have camped in the pet area very many times. Have never stayed in any CG off the Oshkosh grounds, although there are a few close by.

We arrived yesterday. Last week they have 11 inches of rain so all class A we parked off site. We are parked at the fairgrounds with a 30 minute bus ride to the airshow. My wife is bummed she was going to sit around the coach and watch the planes fly around. We still are having fun.

I would have liked to have gone to Oshkosh, but timing wasn't good this year. We are in Lakewood campground in Myrtle beach this week. Met up with a son and grandkids. Maybe next year.

I did receive some EAA info via e-mail and read about the rain and RV's staying off site until it dries up. Some in Sears parking lot and other retailers around the area. Hope it dries up for you and you have a nice week. We got hammered with a storm last night and are getting some more now. John H...

RV D@aily Report

OSHKOSH, Wisc. -- As the annual EAA AirVenture opened Monday, hundreds of RVers were setting up camp sites in vacant parking lots to avoid the mud caused by weeks of rain, WBAY-TV reported.
Officials told RV owners Monday it is unlikely they will get to set up their units on the AirVenture campgrounds during this year's event. They have started a waiting list in the event the weather improves and the ground dries enough to accommodate the motorhomes and travel trailers.
On the bright side, the EAA isn't charging dislocated campers even while providing amenities to the remote sites, WBAY reported.

Arrived at Wittman field last friday after spending the nite before at a "now Loves, used to be Flying J" as a result of a storm that moved thru the area making it unsafe to continue.
After checking in we were escorted to a county road just to the south edge of the EAA grounds. Fortunately for us we were close enough to get a tram and go to the field rather easily. Problem was the other direction of the road was open for Waste Management trucks to go by hauling trash from the grounds. Got rather tense after one truck took off a MH mirror and door damage. Come tuesday we were moved to high ground within Camp Schouler (sp) So finally after 4 days of "camping" on the closed county road we are on the EAA grounds. There are still many, many MH off the grounds at commercial parking lots and being shuttled in each day.
It hasn't dampened the excitement of being here and enjoying the show, simply awesome!!!

We saw were you parked. We arrived on Monday and was parked at the fairgrounds abuut 10 miles from the airshow. On Tuesday we were told
we had to move, the fair was coming to town. We were told we could move to the campground they thought it was dry enough but it was going to rain later in the week and they could make no guarantees or to another offsite parking spot. They could not tell us which ones had openings. We moved across the street from the fairgrounds to a park. I realize the rain the week before was not normal but it appeared from our perspective that they were not concerned with us.

Its a little late now, but for anyone going next year, try Sleepy Hollow Farms. It is right next to the airport, and you can walk over to it easily. Dry camping in the back 40 was $21 a night and with water & electric $42.
