105 west from Beaumont, TX to Montgomery, TX

We are heading west from Lake Charles, LA to Lake Conroe, TX. We would like to get off I10 and take 105W from Beaumont, TX to our destination, Lake Conroe. I have tried researching the forum, using our gps, good Sam trip planner (I don't trust it), and Google. It looks okay but I can't confirm for sure: is 105 W okay for big rigs? No low clearances, crazy high railroad crossings, trees? Most trip planners push for the I10 route. Thanks in advance!

I did Lake Conroe to Beaumont last November. Good road, light traffic. Much better than I10.

Lee,

Checked my Motor Carriers Road Atlas and it list 105 as approved truck route with no low clearances. With ivyKrewe's experience and the Atlas, think I will take the same route Thursday.

Looking forward to seeing ya'll at the Boomers Rally.

The Lake Conroe KOA staff said that 105 is fine and preferable to the I10 route. He had taken that route over a dozen times and was pretty confident. Sounds like a plan! We will see you at the rally...just signed up for the meals.

That is a fine route all the way to College Station. We live off of 105 outside of Beaumont and use it for both our RV and car needs when needing to stay north of Houston.

I took 105 to Navasota a year or so ago; no problems, no excitement, a good road. No way I'd take I-10.
