Advice please: Denver to St Louis

Hi-

We're currently in Ft Collins, CO and need to get to St Louis by Friday to meet up with our daughter. We're heading-out tomorrow morning (Monday). Our plan has been to shoot straight across KS and MO on I-70. We are planning to stay Monday night in Goodland, KS, Tue-Wed in Salina, Thursday in Marshall, MO, and then on to St Louis Friday morning. Of course all of the rough weather and flooding has caught our attention and while we really want to stick with our plan, we don't want to push things and be foolish. This is our first time heading through that area so we really don't know what to expect. We're doing as much DOT site checking and weather forecast checking as possible, but appreciate "real world" experience.

Would love to hear some folks that have recently taken I-70 though that area. We’re getting pretty nervous about potential tornados/hail/flooding.

An alternative from here night be Hwy 80 east then cut south somewhere into St. Louis (?)

Any advice (besides the obvious "don't go" ? Would be GREATLY appreciated! Completely open to alternative routes. Main thing is to get to St Louis by Friday to meet up with our daughter.

Thank you!

I-70 would be easy - RT 36 would likely be more fun less trucks - less traffic.

All up to what you are good with. It would be simple for me to take RT 34 to RT 36 on to some easy route before Hannibal and then on to St Louis.

Just do what you are comfortable with.

Best of luck,

When the sky is dark blue/gray and tall in front of you, take a break. Same applies if you see it coming at you. Hard to outrun a storm. And parking or taking refuge under an overpass IS NOT an answer in a storm.
