The road surface is fine but the stretch through the park along the Sterling Hwy, after the junction, is tight and twisted. There is not a lot of wiggle room along that stretch. It is well worth the effort however.

The road surface is great. However, it's a dangerous highway so be aware and watch for oncoming folks passing vehicles. They seem to want to get down to the Kenai without wasting time. Fishing is important. I'd highly recommend you not drive in on Fri-Sun so that you'll have less traffic. July 4 weekend is a zoo. I don't mean to scare you as it's an absolutely MUST... just be aware of the other guys.

Good road. Cooper Landing is narrow, no shoulders, and 35mph, but not that long. Last week there was one way down toward Ninilchik on fresh new pavement. It is a 5hour or so drive. Like most of Alaska, there is no alternate route.

Good road, a little tight some places, watch out for the crazy drivers and make use of the pull overs to let others pass. I am here now traveling.
