Any updates for conditions on I-78 W/B through eastern PA?

Escaping the northeast next week...weather permitting... and heading to first stop in Myrtle Beach.

I absolutely refuse to drive through NYC, Philly, Baltimore and D.C. I made the mistake last year northbound going through D.C. never again.

Anyway, I've usually gone 84 through CT then dropped down on 684 across the Tappan Zee Bridge - I refuse to call it the other name - then down 287 to I-78 in New Jersey. I follow I-78 to I-81, then I-66 in VA to Rt 17 which brings me out on 95 by Fredericksburg VA.

I enjoy that route except for the stretch of I-78 from the PA/NJ line to I-81. It's a great road to drive on if you want to find all the rattles and squeaks in your vehicle.

I'm thinking about getting off 287 in NJ and jumping on I-80 west to Stroudsburg PA then dropping south 209 to 33 to I-78. We like to overnight at Cabelas in Hamburg as it's a one day drive from home. Not sure about the hills going W/B on 80 though.

I'm looking for updates on the construction/road conditions (is it still a washboard?) for I-78 from anyone who's been through lately. I searched the site and most of the posts are 6 to 15 years ago.

If someone has better suggestions for a route I'm listening. I'm driving a 25' Class C towing a Jeep Wrangler.

Thanks and see you on the road!
