I'm curious what would happen if you blocked off all your license plates and went through the automated toll booths.

About all they can do is go by the vehicle description. An RV or TT is a little harder to blend in than say a Buick SUV or Honda Accord.
A $200 fine is a lot more than the toll fees.

For me - Beltway 8 loop is less brain damage and white-knuckle lane changes. My son, DIL and grandson are in League City (way southeast) and I always take Beltway 8 no matter what time of day it is.

Have not made the trip yet. Original plans was this Friday, but have delayed it one day. We will be traveling through Houston this Saturday now. We decided to get out of Michigan on the 12th to beat the snow, which was perfect as they got whacked with the white stuff, and have been driving no more than 4-5 hours a day. Now spending Thanksgiving in Livingston, Texas. It has been a pleasant trip so far condsidering our original plans was to make Brownsville in 4 nights. We've stayed at some great COE campgrounds along the way. Today is the nicest weather day so far. Sunny and 72! Beats Michigan's 30's. I will update the Houston bypass later.

Good idea coming thru Houston on Saturday. It’s supposed to rain Thursday and Friday, never good for driving here. Just check the traffic apps for the best way thru, it might not be bad on 59 thru downtown.

I lived in Houston for almost two years. Now recently returned to New Hampshire.
I used to hear people going on about Houston traffic but I didn't find it that bad. I frequently used to take someone from Kingwood in the north to the medical center district near downtown on I69. We also took the RV from Kingwood down I69 and then I45 to Galveston.
The thing I found frustrating around the suburbs was the number of drivers slow to move at a green light etc. It seemed worse than around here. I don't know if they're looking at phones or what. I'm not obnoxious so I don't normally honk but ... I was frequently tempted to. Time just seemed to move more slowly there.

Lifetime Texan here. I don't remember that being an issue until cell phones came around. Very frustrating...count down 1...2...3...4...HONK!
