Bob, if you go the way TwoGypsies say, you'll go right by Mountain Home....IDAHO! LOL! Since I see you're from Mountain Home AR I thought that might be kinda fun. Although I will say that YOUR Mountain Home sure looks a lot nicer.
I was stationed there while in the AF and the running line was, "There's a girl behind every tree"....it's a desert.
If you do go this way, you will have the Blue Mountains in OR to deal with along with "Deadmans Pass". I know..sounds ominous, but it's not bad, depending on the weather of course.
Also, Snoqualmie Pass in Washington can be a challenge as well.
