Atlanta I-285 traffic on weekends?

Planning a trip that will take me around the infamous I-285 beltway on either a Saturday or Sunday. Montgomery to Alpharetta. How is afternoon traffic on the weekends? Just towing my A Frame camper.

Thanks.

Atlanta traffic isn't bad on the weekends on 285 by pass. Grab #2 lane and go.

It has been lately with I85 being shut down. I live in Atlanta, it's normally "not bad" on weekends, but it has been worse with the shut down.

Atlanta is closed.
Don't come here.
Go away.

In all seriousness, I'm beginning to think the best time to try to get through here is 2am on a Sunday. With the growth of the city, 285 is no longer the bypass AROUND Atlanta, it's become part of Atlanta.
If there's any other route you can find to avoid Atlanta, I would find it.
IMHO.

I went through the area last Friday, 5PM. Yep, I really did. Heading south on 85 I was prepared to take 285 south and hook up to 85 S. Gmaps shaved 30 minutes by sending me off 85 and down a few narrow state roads to hook up to 20. Then East to 285. It was smooth sailing until around the ATL airport. About 15 minutes of inching along and then all was good. I was actually surprised how little traffic there was at 5pm on a Friday.

Atlanta traffic is completely unpredictable every day of the week. I've lived in the area since 1975 and commuted downtown for years for work. If you can find a route that lets you avoid the freeways altogether, that's what I would do. With I-85 northbound temporarily closed, ALL the freeways and major throughways have been impacted as people look for alternates. If you absolutely must drive through, the times of day that are usually less problematic would be 9-11:30 am and probably 1-3 pm. Avoid am and pm rush and midday if you can. Morning rush usually lasts until 8:45 or so, and the afternoon rush can start around 3 or 3:30. By 6:30 pm, things have usually cleared out as much as they ever do.

If there are sporting events or other major events in town, all bets are off. Good luck!
