Atlanta issue!

What’s the best way to travel heading south through Atlanta in a 42’ RV, I75 or take the bypass I285 around the city. We’ll be going through the area around 1pm.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

For the past 6 to 8 year's we have run I 75 right through town , between 10 am. And 2 pm.

Or 10 pm to 2 , 4 am.
Light traffic and no issues.

We travel straight through Atlanta on I-75. Lots less traffic and better roads than on the bypass.

Probably that time of day.. best to go down I-75 thru town, but put it in Waze and see what is going on. if coming from the north to south, there is a good bit of road work going on on I-285 to the west of town around I-285/I75 down a couple of miles west to S. Cobb Drive.

I recently made a trip through Atlanta a few months ago. I choose to do it on a Sunday morning and it was reasonable easy. It was even raining. I came up I-85 to I-285 and back on to I-85. Your route depends on which way you are coming from and which way you are heading to. Mine was easy.

Watch your mirrors. ATL ranks high in my book for their skinny lanes.

My wife will attest to this, we are getting our new side view mirror put on today. We live in Atlanta

We've done that route many times. The bypass adds a lot of miles, and tends to have more traffic.

The first time we went straight through on I-75 was a mistake, I missed the ramp to the bypass. After that experience, however, we always stay on I-75. Typically the heaviest traffic we'll experience is where traffic on the bypass is trying to merge back on to I-75.

Larry, didn’t know you could take the RV on the HOV lanes. Any pass required?

Since buses are allowed plus we had two people, I just drove it and didn't get stopped. I'll always use it from now on.
