Austin TX -> New York route/stop recommendations
Traveling Austin to New York, Long Island, starting around May 6th. Any recommendations on route to take, or good stops along the route? Any good RV resorts?
Not planning on having a TOAD so nothing we'd need to drive ourselves to. We will likely have some electric bikes.
St Louis or Nashville?

New York is pretty wide. If you are heading to NYC, or Buffalo, the routes may be different.

I've been to St Louis (work travel) and Nashville (with coach). Much prefer Nashville. More to see/do/eat.
Stayed at Two Rivers Campground. Convenient to downtown. Sites are small, but clean. There was public transportation into town from park, but we didn't use it. Suggest calling park to get details.
Also stayed at Grand Old RV Resort. Nicer park, but much further away from town. It did however have a train track nearby that you could hear occasionally, but didn't bother us.

NYC/Long Island is a big congested area. What is your exact area destination.

Whatever you do, do NOT get on anything labeled "parkway" in NY. Such as the Southern State on Long Island.
You're not allowed and you won't fit, height-wise.
There are very limited options for RV parks, certainly nothing of "resort" nature, in the NYC/Long Island area.

Thanks, we've driven RV out there before. We're visiting family. We'll aware of the parkways and all the low overpasses scattered aroudn the east coast!

Some thoughts: - Take I-10 and I-12 rather than go north through Dallas. When you go through Louisiana, stop in Lafayette for REAL Cajun food. Avoid New Orleans.
- If you have time, take the Nachez Trace Parkway through Mississippi to Nashville. Height restriction is 15 feet so most RVs can use it. Watch out for cyclists.
- Nashville has tons of sights to see right in downtown.
- Knoxville and East Tennessee has everything from Dollywood to the Great Smoky Mountains NP
- Driving up I-81 through the Shenandoah is a joy. Only negative is too many truck drivers have discovered it as a way to avoid I-95.
- If you really have plenty of time, drive the Blue Ridge Parkway. It's gorgeous, especially the North Carolina sections. Do check on height restrictions though - there's some low tunnels south of Asheville.
- Natural Bridge in Virginia is nice to see
- Of course, Washington DC and Philly are along the way.

A couple of comments;
We have friends who were from Boston make the trek a few times a year to N Texas and after several variations they decided going through Nashville worked best for them.
As far a taking I-10 I would disagree. If you take I-10 that means going all the way through Houston and crappy Louisiana interstate plus it's longer.
Dallas just like Austin is a matter of timing and picking the correct road.
If you take I-35E out of Hillsboro go up to I-20 then go east to where it turns into 635 and take the I-30 exit to Arkansas and Nashville. You'll spend 15-20 minutes in "Dallas".
On second thought if time isn't an issue you could take I-10 all the way to Jacksonville, Fl then north, that might be a lot of fun.
