Auto Insurance in Canada
Just got my insurance renewal package from High Point Insurance and noted this comment:
Traveling to Canada? If you are planning a trip to Canada and will be driving there, please note that Canadian law requires you to carry a Canada Non-Resident Inter-Province Motor Vehicle Liability Insurance card as proof of insurance. This card is different from the insurance identification card that is enclosed in your policy package. There is no charge for the card, and we'll be happy to provide one to you upon your request.
This info may already be in the forum someplace but it was news to me.

This used to be called the "Yellow card". I requested one from my insurance agent a few years ago, and he said it is no longer required. Now that we have two different stories, I wonder which is correct?

The "Yellow Card" was required in 2011. We drove to Alaska that summer and had to request one from our insurance provider. It was only good for a specified time. You have to have a certain amount of liability insurance and your insurance company has to able to cover you under Canadian Law. Ours was never even looked at even when we crossed the border.
At least that was the way it was when we went through there 3 years ago.

When getting ready to travel to Alaska through Canada earlier this year I called my RV insurance company and they sent me a Canada "card" then I called my auto insurance company for the tow car and they said I didn't need one. Different companies.

Rules may differ by your state of registration, current policy limits, and insurance company.
Here in B.C. minimum liability insurance is $250,000, and this may be Canada wide. I was shocked when told Montana ,only required a minimum of $50,000. Could be if crossing border, into Canada, with Montana plates you'd be asked.
