It was very low going in as I mentioned up topic. I did not see that any trees had been trimmed recently on Riverland. they all looked like old cuts. I did notice the butchery over the years of the live oaks on Riverland to clear way for power lines.

I did drive down Camp road, it did not seem to be very bad and Riverland is more open going north to the campground.

I guess give the county a call.

I drove Riverland Dr from the park to Maybank to route 17 last week in my truck. No way would I take my over 13' high RV down those roads.

I also drove by Camp Road while on Folly Rd. The junk hanging from the tress look extremely low and, aga, no way would I take my RV down that road either.

Maybe if I had something at 11' or shorter, but I'm not in that category.

I watched large trucks coming and going on Riverland and all made the junk hanging from the tress move as if they brushed them.

We're 12'4" and had no moss on our motor home and nothing scratched the top going in and out on Central Park. We saw a number of larger motor homes in the campground while we were there.

We really enjoyed the park and are going back in November.

Gave the county a call on Monday. Had them check the work order and told them this has been requested since July. Shared with the our frustrations that this has not been taken care of. Will call them again next week.

Alright my friends I need your help. I have made numerous phone calls, even this week, since we begin dealing with the low hanging limbs going on the road to James Island County Park. We all need to pull together and put pressure on the DOT to get this accomplished. Please call the DOT at 843-740-1655 and give them the work order #378403 to find out the present status and ENCOURAGE them to please get this accomplished. I will be arriving there on November 1. Shalom and stay safe in your travels. DHE.

Well I will be going and Iíll report my findings. I guess the best approach will be Folly to Camp to Riverland. Iím 12í6Ē so we shall see how it goes. Iíll make the call but Iím pretty sure it wonít get done in 2 days!

Instead of turning right on Camp Road (by Walgreen's) you might want to continue east on Folly and turn right on George L. Griffith Blvd. (at the traffic light by WalMart). It's usually trimmed better than Camp Road. At the end of Griffith you have to turn and come back up Riverland to the park entrance, but again, it's usually better than coming the other way on Riverland from Maybank.

You might also want to consider calling the park again and seeing if there's anything they can do to encourage a faster response on the trimming.

I just got off the phone with the campground. They knew nothing about a work order being issued to trim the trees. The lady I talked to seemed to be excited to know there was a work order issued. She is going to have her supervisor call DOT immediately. Hopefully that will swing a little weight in the right direction.

Ok I have arrived! Safely and without incident.

My route was I26 south to the end, then I stayed to my right to follow 17 south, went over the Ashley river on 17 south. Then bear left onto 171 (Folly RD) heading towards Folly Beach went over the Maybank Bridge continued on Folly Rd to Camp rd and made a right on Camp Rd. Took that to Riverland made right and then about 1/4 mile made left into the park.

Had no trouble whatsoever with any low hanging branches/limbs/moss. I’m 40’ towing a Jeep and am 12’6” high. I checked up on the roof when I arrived and found nothing that would indicate I brushed up against anything.

So I would not hesitate to take that route again.
