Took that to Riverland made right and then about 1/4 mile made left into the park.

Had no trouble whatsoever with any low hanging branches/limbs/moss. I’m 40’ towing a Jeep and am 12’6” high. I checked up on the roof when I arrived and found nothing that would indicate I brushed up against anything.

So I would not hesitate to take that route again.
Enjoy your visit. We had a great time and were sorry we had not previously visited. We are going back in November.

Spoke with SCDOT and they will be cutting tree limbs above the road going to James Island County Park beginning Sunday, November 1. Finally some action after 5 months. Thanks to all who make phone calls to get this accomplished. DHE.

James Island County Park discussion

We finally have the problem being solved. The road crew to cut trees along Riverland Drive to the park will begin this Sunday, November 1, 2020. Beware that they are going to work on this road trimming the trees only on Sundays due to heavy traffic during the week. I will be coming down on November 1 for seven days and will take an alternate route this time which is suppose to be a little better route at least for the time. Thanks to all who made phone calls and gave support during these last seven months trying to get this accomplished. God bless. DHE

Headed down Monday. Near Goose Creek, SC I have a choice of routes.

Taking into consideration traffic and trees, which is the better route in from the Goose Creek, SC area?

1- I-26 to it's end, then Lockwood Dr. to James Is Expressway to Folly Rd to Camp Rd to Riverland Dr to the campground.

2- I-26 to I-526 to Hwy 17 to Folly Rd Blvd to Folly Rd to Camp Rd to Riverland Dr to the campground.

The last time I was there (probably 8 years ago) it was a nightmare driving my lower class A through Charleston. I am not going that way ever again.

It looks like I can off highway 17 going East on Main Road, take that to River Road (SRS-10-91) and then SC700 to Riverview Drive.

I search a lot of threads but didn't find anything recent.

Thanks.
Ahhh, the low country's treasured live oak trees. Picturesque in 'gone with the wind' but a pain in the ass for us who have to live with them.

We have no desire to drive through Charleston with the motor home with car in tow so we usually plan to go the extra few miles to go around on 526 to 17 and take Folly down to Camp Road. We are about 12'6" and keep to the middle of Camp with no problem.

On our trip down earlier this month the driver refused to listen to the navigator and we got to tour Charleston after dark as we tried to find streets to turn around. With that disaster I have no idea which road we actually took to get to Folly this trip. With that behind us we were in the wrong lane to take Maybank so I don't know how much the crew had trimmed by then.

James Island trees

Trees are terrible no matter if you take camp road or any road. I have not found a route to the campground yet that doesn't have low hanging trees.
