Hello everyone,

I hope I am posting this to the correct spot.

My husband and I are taking our first "big"¯ trip with 5th wheel we purchased last summer.

We are planning on going to Gettysburg from 8/2/02 – 8/9/08 and then moving to Williamsburg, VA from 8/9/08 -8/16/08. My question is what is the best route from Northwest to Gettysburg and then from Williamsburg back to Vermont.

I have narrowed CG down to two in Gettysburg"”Round Top and Artillery Ridge and American Heritage in Williamsburg. Any suggestions on must sees or recommendations on CG would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all.

Welcome to IRV2.

We prefer Artillery Ridge over Round Top. It is quiet, cheaper and closer to the parks new vistors center.

I would take Route 15 south down thru Maryland, Point of rocks into VA and down to Route 17. Route 17 over to I95 south, to I295 around Richmond to I64 toward Williamsburg. This will be a nice county ride, yet the roads are fine for a large rig. Stay away from the Washington Beltway and as much of I95 in northern VA as possible.

On your way down to Gettysburg, you might want to stop and see the Armash(sp) people in Lancaster, Pa. We stay at Country Acres campgound just east of Lancaster. Then take route 30 to Gettysburg.

Have a safe trip.

I agree with the recommendation of Route 17 over to the 295/95 corridor....

As a native of the Virginia Beach area (until a year ago) with friends in the Pittsburgh, PA area I have been this route many times and dearly love the Route 17 corridor for it's natural beauty.

Be aware that late in the day (or early in the morning) there's quite the possibility of a traffic jam where 17 and 95 come together, but it's not insurmountable.
Lots of commuters along that particular stretch of roadway....

While there's certainly a lot to see in PA, I think you'll have a good time in VA as well.
