Best Route

OK guys.

Don't know if this is the proper place to ask, but here goes.

We're headed to Gillette, WY next week for the National Rodeo High School rodeo.

Looking for the best route from Dallas, TX to Gillette, WY.

Traveling in a motorhome and three days to get there.

Looking to go through Amarillo, TX or Wichita, KS.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

See the map in this LINK.

The shown route uses US287 from Fort Worth to Limon, CO then CO71 and NE71 to Kimball Nebraska, then I80 west to Cheyenne and I25 north to Douglas and WY59 to Gillette. I'll let you decide how you are going to get from Dallas to US287.

While passing through/by Douglas wave hi to my high school friends and then when in Gillette wave hi to my hundreds of cousins.

I would tend to concur on that route, I have driven it twice in the last decade, the last time being for the 2017 Solar eclipse which we watched from just outside Douglas, Wy, just be aware there is a LOT of nothing from Amarillo,TX to Limon, CO

I agree with the above, although I35 N to I70 then west is a reasonable option. It will be interstate, but the distance will be longer. In OK City there is a lot of construction on I35, but it is doable.

For trip planning, I use rvtripwizard.com. You can enter the specifics of your rig and it will keep you off of roads that you shouldn't be on, usually. You can enter your preferred driving speed on various types of roads and your maximum driving time. With that information it will display a driving radius which makes it easy to pick your next stop.
