Best route from Amarillo to Raton

Needing advice,

We will be traveling pulling the 5th wheel from Amarillo, Tx to Raton, NM and I wanted to hear what route you all thought will be the easiest on the tow vehicle.

It's a stock '96 f350 DRW PSD, I'd rather not make the old truck strain anymore than necessary.

We rode our motorcycles up through there once, but I don't remember much about the grades.
Thanks, Farmer

Raton Pass is not a biggie as far as mountain passes go. It is 5-6% grades and doesn't even have a runaway truck ramp so you know it's not bad. Have a good trip!

head north young man
285 to dumas then hang a left
to 87 up through dalhart, to clayton
then pick up 64/87
stop at calupin volcano
then finish up at raton

great cg in dalhart,

road is two lanes most of the way, but it avoids those grades on i-25
we go this way often

We just took the route powerboatr recommended two days ago. No problem, well the wind got pretty bad, but not enough to pull over. We have a 30' Winnebago Aspect and pull a CRV, we've travelled this route many times over the years. Saw many 5th wheels on the road....usually passing us
Safe travels
