Best route from Atlanta Ga to Branson, MO

What would be the best route to take from Atlanta Ga to Branson Mo in a 32 ft Jayhawk class C Pulling a Tow vehicle? Also best campground to stay with easy access in/out? Best time of year to go ?

Google maps has you going to memphis then on to Branson. I can not speak of the path from Atlanta to Memphis but I can from Memphis to Branson. Out of Memphis it takes you on Hwy 64 unless you like a true Ozark Mountain road I would suggest taking I 40 to Little Rock then Hwy 65 to Branson. Memphis is a great city to look around at. Maybe spending 2-3 days there. So much to look at. I would recommend staying at Tom Sawyers RV Park http://tomsawyersrvpark.com/

Best time of year for Branson really depends on you. For the most part Branson closes down from 1 Jan to Middle of March. In July and August its very busy, hot and humid (we go north this time of year) but eveything is up and running. I would say to avoid the crowd at our great amusement park (Silvar Dollar City) I would come either before school is out or after it starts. With that said Christmas time at SDC can not be beat, plus all of the shows are doing their christmas stuff. Its a great time in Branson.

As for RV parks we have alot to choose from and most are pretty good. As we live here have not really stayed in any of the parks. I know Americas Best gets alot of traffic. We have a good COE park also. If you are coast to coast members Treasure Lake is a great place to stay. I drive by Musicland RV park all the time its easy access and close to most Branson stuff Branson Musicland Campground & RV Park | Good Sam Top Rated in Branson Missouri for RV Parks & Campgrounds

Atlanta to Memphis: I-20, I-65, I-22, I-69, I-55. You can cross the river on I-55. Tom Sawyers will be the first exit to the south. It is a fabulous place. Last time we were in Memphis we visited the Bass Pro Shops Pyramid. It was kool. Speaking of Bass Pro Shops, if you like to visit their stores, the one in Springfield is their biggest store. The site there includes numerous museum type displays. It seems like I read it was the number one tourist attraction in Missouri. Branson is very similar to Gatlinburg. We enjoyed the riverboat dinner cruise and show. We stayed down on the river in City of Branson Lakeside RV Park. It is not a resort, but it is a good place to camp and the location is hard to beat.

Totally agree on Atlanta to Memphis route. Have driven this multiple times and when I go that way (from Augusta GA) I do not even have to look at the map.

A question like this is hard to get a definitive answer that suits your life. What may be best for me, may not be best for you.

Do you want interstate roads or are you comfortable taking some state highways and more scenery? Do you look for a pristine resort with all of the amenities or do you like the more rustic campgrounds, or will you want to boondock?

From Memphis head toward Jonesboro, Mammoth Springs. There’s about 45 minutes drive before you get to mammoth springs that is really hilly not mountainous but deep hills that you have to navigate. In Missouri head toward West Plains and then to Springfield low traffic on highway and in pretty good shape

I-22 from Birmingham to Memphis is a very nice road with minimal 18-wheeler traffic. I totally agree with the suggestion of Tom Sawyers RV Park. We have stayed there many times. It’s worth it to pay the little extra to get a spot with the river view. You face the Mississippi river and are close enough that if your friend was driving a barge, you would recognize him.

Last Fall we drove 63/412 between Memphis and Branson. 412 connects to 65 just South of Harrison, AR. We drove this route in a 37ft Class A gasser pulling a Jeep. There were no tough grades, just a lot of twists and turns. If you prefer staying off the interstate, this is a great route out of Memphis.

If you prefer wider roads with less twists and turn, out of Memphis, you could take I-40 to 65, up to Branson. I-40 is typically very heavy with 18-wheeler traffic and this route is a bit longer, but not significantly.

We have a membership at Treasure Lake. It is close enough to the strip for convenience, but far enough away from the strip that you feel like you are in the woods. It also has easy access to Silver Dollar City. If you are not going to Silver Dollar City, the RV park near Branson Landing is a good choice and there are also a couple of RV parks near/on Table Rock Lake, if you prefer to be a little more away from everything.

We have found that the 3 Spring Break weeks in March are a terrible time to go to Branson. It is crazy crowded. The month of May, before Memorial Day Weekend is a great time if you want to avoid the crowds. The month of June gets busier, but the weather is still nice. July and August are just plain hot in Branson. The week after Labor Day had less crowds and the weather is still very nice. As others have mentioned, if you like Christmas festivities, it is a great time to go to Branson. I would avoid Branson the week between Christmas and New Year’s. It’s crazy that week…Don’t ask me how I know 😉

Having traveled to Branson from just south of Nashville and back, I highly recommend this route from Atlanta:

I-75 -> I-24 -> I-840 -> I-40 -> US-412 -> I-155 -> I-55 -> US-60 -> US-65 -> Branson, MO.

I-75 to I-24 - Avoid going thru Chattanooga at "rush hour".

I-840 bypasses Nashville (aka Atlanta 2.0)

US-412 from Jackson, TN is a nice 4-lane divided highway with exits and very little traffic. Take I-155 from Dyersburg, TN across the Mississippi to I-55.
This leg bypasses Memphis, TN and all that congestion.

I-55 north to US-60 at Sikeston, MO (stop at Lambert's for some "throwed rolls").

US-60 west to just outside Springfield, MO - This highway has very little traffic and is almost like interstate.

US-65 south to Branson, again, a 4 lane divided highway.

We went this route to avoid Memphis when the I-40 bridge over the Mississippi was closed for structural repairs.
