I went through Paris, TX and up-n-over Dallas the other day. I'll consider it a mistake and wouldn't recommend it.

From I-20 East we took I-49 North from Shreveport to Texarkana and then 82 to Paris, TX. We stayed one night at Angle's Camp RV Park; it was a good place with friendly folks running it and easy pull-thrus. From there we continued on 82 to Wichita Falls to 287.

I-49 seemed like a new road but it was horrible. So many waves & humps on such a new piece of concrete highway. It wasn't the seams, it was just plain wavy. Apparently someone can't make a decent concrete highway in LA or AR.

Then 82 out of Texarcana was just as bad and the part in/around Paris, TX was even more horrible. Pot holes, bad seams, wavy, you name it - it was just awful.

From Paris to Witcha Falls wasn't much more of a picnic either.

I use to just take I-30 around the top of Dallas from Mineola and then pick up 287 in Decature. I'll take that the next time I need to bypass Dallas.
