Best route from Salem to Astoria?

Any preference on routes from Salem OR to Astoria OR? I prefer scenic drives but try to steer clear of low hanging trees.

3 ways to go depending on your preference. You can take hwy 22 out of salem, hook up with hwy 18 into 101. Run up I-5 to 217, hook up with 26 go to cannon beachpick up 101, or run I-5 to portland, pick up 30, run that all the way direct to astoria.

Car or RV?
Car, 22 to 101
RV I5, I405, 26,101. Or 22,99w, at MacMinnville head cross country to 26.. although this is not really RV friendly.

Depending rather you want more coast or river. Makes a difference what your driving and how comfortable you are. If it was me i would take 22,18 to valley junction, then to hebo and 101, then straight to astoria.

IF running 22 to 18 to 101 out of Salem... DO NOT be tempted to stay on 22 to the 101.. That is a crooked non STAA route bugger-all. for anything over about 32/34 feet.

Sorry, took it for granted that I was talking about the RV and toad (in sig). Winding slow roads thru small towns arenít generally a problem for me...sometimes they are the most scenic! I just donít want to be swerving around low tree branches. Usually, trucks do a good job of trimming the trees unless youíre on a road that they donít use!

How big is your RV? Yea 22 from Valley Jinction to 101 is slow, twisty. Drove it every day for a month during a friends trial in Tillamook, so I know it quite well. Semis drive it daily, so as long as your not 45 feet towing a toad you will be fine.

Oh it isn't that bad. LOL

I was a greenhorn, with maybe 8 months experience and my directions were along the lines of "Hy 26 past Elderberry Inn and turn left on 103 to Jewell. At Jewell turn on Hy 202 and go to the end of civilization."

Turned out I was about 7 or 8 miles from Astoria.

I had several loads going there and the extra distance going around to Astoria then back was about the same time wise.
