We will be leaving Olympia, Wa probably on Tuesday headed to Quartzsite for a few months. This is our first time to Quartzsite and wanted to know if anyone can tell us how to find the BLM boondocking areas to camp in, also the best route from here in Washington to Quartzsite. I have checked the route on Mapquest and it shows 3 different routes. The closest one is straight down I-5 thru California till you get to I-210 then over to I-10 to Quartzsite. I checked the other 2 routes out but the weather on those is not looking good next week, very cold. Driving a 36 ft Damon Intruder and pulling a Chevy Colorado. Any and all advice on Quartzsite and on the road trip appreciated.

Your first route is the best route. I live near 210 and follow it to the 10 right to Quartzsite. Safe travels, enjoy the Main Event tent and visit the tome of Hi Jolly the camel.

If weather allows, might try 395 on the eastern Sierras.

Don't know if you have seen this? Weather was mentioned above......try this for planning your route NWS EDD , not only maps your route, but gives you the weather for it along the way......

I leave Oly. for Q in about two weeks for the manyith time. Oly to Seven Feathers, first night and check the Siskiyous for condition. Next night Rolling Hills casino. Third night is Orange Grove RV park on he east side of Bakesfield. All are right off the free ways with long pull throughs, first two are Casinos, the last you can pick fresh oranges next to your RV. Now you are in warm weather and slow to see the sites. Next night's can be in Fed parks and shorter drives to Q. or a longer drive day to Q. Move around a bit there are so many boondocking places and interesting things to see in AS. and the east edge of Calli.

I have made that trip many, many times. This time of the year, weather may be a determining factor. Watch the fronts coming in from the coast and time between them. As you head down 5, get around Portland between rushes. I always take the by pass around except early Sunday mornings then I will go straight through the city. I weather looks iffy you can cut over to the coast as you pass Corvallis and Eugene. Figure it will add at least a day and may be windy but snow unlikely. First night in Canyonville. That is a great place to get road and weather conditions for south of Ashland. Hit the summit at noon or there abouts. Then my next stop is either Red Bluff or Redding. I have been know to press on to Bakersfield from there but now break it up with a stop at Flags in Lodi. My favorite vineyards there we stock up. Then head to Orange Grove in Bakersfield. Check the win for next day. If it looks good head over the pass to Tehachapi/Barstow. From there you can make Q or stop in Bullhead, Havasau or any of a number of places. Have done both sides of the river. I prefer the CA side. Seems less traffic on the Weed Hwy.

I remember the first time I made that trip I went with someone in our motor home club. After that I have continued to modify my route, stop overs and fuel stops. You do it a few times you will find what works best for you.
