Best Route to Lake Almanor? (CA)

Staying on the North shore near Chester in a couple of weeks, and looking for the best RV route from the valley floor. Highway 70 up the Feather River Canyon looks doable for a 36' MH and toad, but has lots of grades and curves.

I've taken the scenic route (I80 to Hwy 89 at Truckee) it's very RV friendly, but adds over an hour of travel time.

The shortest route appears to be Hwy 32 out of Chico, but I know nothing about the road, nor have I been on 36 out of Red Bluff.

I would appreciate the insight of anyone who has driven theses routes in a similar rig!

We live east of Quincy and have driven all those routes in 40 ft mh pulling a toad or our enclosed trailer, nothing too bad on any of them in my mind.
