Best way to Moab?

I've got a Moab, UT trip planned in mid March. I'm familiar with northern NM, but since I'm traveling I-40 from Okc in my 40 ft Motorhome, I would appreciate any experiences on the route from Albuquerque to Moab. Is it better to go to Gallup then north, Or go North out of Albuquerque and through Farmington?

That's exactly how I go to Moab. 550 is a good road. Once years ago I went to Gallup and north - the road was very rough then and I said I would never go that way again. I'm headed there the 10th of March.

Update! we took 550 out of Albuquerque and 491 after that as our route to Moab. Was a good route to take. I do need to say that 491 in New Mexico was in poor shape, but as soon as we got into Colorado it was fine.
