Big Ben (Terlingua) to Carlsbad.

I am sure I saw something months ago about whether-or-not to travel on US285 between Fort Stockton and Carlsbad. And the advice was that US285 was used a lot by oil field workers and should be avoided if possible. Now I can't find that thread.

I'm faced with traveling from Terlingua to Carlsbad without stops (not overnight). And taking US285 via Fort Stockton vs. via Van Horn and TX54 to US62.

Thoughts? Comments?

Check on Google to check but a few years ago we didn't know and it was brutal. I would go through Van Horn unless someone has more recent knowledge.
