Can anyone give me a place to stay to see the sights in this area? Would like to see Mt Rushmore, Deadwood, Devils Tower etc. we have a 35' with a toad. Wonder if we can see most things in 2 days before heading to Yellowstone. Thanks

Firstly, two days is nowhere near enough to see the Black Hills area.

I suggest you find a place to stay in the heart of the hills, near Rushmore, to tour that area. We always stay at the Rafter-J-Bar and highly recommend it. It's a short and scenic drive to Mt Rushmore from there, Custer State Park, which you must do and the Crazy Horse monument which we also recommend. We'll usually spend one to three weeks there when we visit.

While you could day trip to Deadwood (driving up through Spearfish Canyon) and even Devils Tower from there you'd probably be better off finding someplace closer to both, from an efficiency standpoint. Can't help you with that although I know there's a KOA within sight of Devils tower and at least one nice RV park at Deadwood.

Black Hills National Forest

We chose a campground near Custer as a base to drive around the Black Hills. Near to everything you would want to see.our campground even rents UTVs to drive on the trails in the National Forest.

We stayed near Hill City (we found it through Passport America) ... it was bare bones but we were only there in evenings ...

Hill City is very centrally located!!!

We're finishing 3 days in Spearfish, not nearly enough time for this area, but all we had. Highly recommend Spearfish City Campground. We'll be spending 4 nights in the Custer area before heading home. We'll just get in the highlights with our 2 grandsons before we must head home. We'll be staying at Fort Welikit. Haven't been there before, but I think it will meet our needs. This is our fourth time in the area and we still haven't seen everything.

You asked about Black Hills National Forest. Here is an excellent site that we used all the time for national forest campgrounds.

Hart Ranch RV Park outside of Rapid City is very nice.

I agree with JMonroe. Two days is nowhere near enough time to see what is there for you. The Badlands Park alone is a one day trip.

Good luck with the travel plans.
