Blueridge Parkway

Has anyone ever pulled their 5er on the Blueridge Parkway? The research Iíve done said the lowest tunnel is 13í 1Ē. Iím planning a trip from South Jersey to Nashville on Easter Vacation. Just wondering if that would be a good way to go??

Last time I was up there in a car and that was fun.
There is no way I would take my 40 ft x 102 in 5er up there!

I have been on the Blue Ridge Parkway several times but never ever pulled any 5ER I had. Are you really sure that the lowest point is 13'-1" clearance? I thought there were some lower points around Asheville NC in the 12 foot high range. Also the roadway speed limit I believe is a max of 45MPH and this is a narrow curvy roadway. Your 5ER will be in the opposite lane of traffic on some of the curves as you pull the trailer, in my opinion.

Stay at Chantilly Farm https://chantillyfarm.com . That will be be a good enough test getting there, but you definitely cannot drive the BRP with a trailer. It was tough with just the truck.

I ran the northern half with a 30 ft Class C and toad on a dolly.

Never felt unsafe, crowded, or hurried by other traffic. Some of the scenic view turnoff are small through.

Camped on the BPK and used the toad to explore the southern portion.

Well thanks everyone for the insight. Thatís the best part of this forum, being able to bounce ideas and questions. Sounds like I should add a day to my trip, park at a campground along I-81 and do a day trip on the parkway. Thanks again.

From I-64 south it's the Blue Ridge Parkway. North is called Skyline Drive I believe. Helpful if you want to Google the different sections. If you could do it, it would be one long slow drive with an RV. Nicer if you do it in a car.

Not only that, south on the Blue Ridge Parkway, it's free. Skyline Drive is an enclosed federal park, and requires a fee to enter. You're good if you have one of the National Park yearly passes, or if you have a permanent pass such as the "Geezer" Pass. Otherwise you pay upon entry.

Get to 95 and jog over to 81 there are a few highways that cut across. Then Id come down 81 to i-40 and go west from there. 81 isnt bad grade wise.

Over the years I have done quite a bit of the of the BRP with my 12'10" 5er. Minimum height shown is curbside for the tunnels. The center is much higher.
