Boise Idaho to Portland, Or (Portland International Raceway)
Looks like 84 is the direct route, but going through Portland to connect to I-5 for about 5 more. Traffic is hideous. Any thoughts or suggestions? 30' class A and small race trailer.
Any significant grades?
Thanks Marc

Just drove that less than two weeks ago returning to Oregon from Missouri and Iowa.
There are a few 6 percent grades on 84 but mostly those are descents since you are dropping in elevation all the way from Idaho west.
You can take 84 to 205 north to 30 West or Colombia Blvd west and avoid the worst parts of 84 and 5.

It can be quite windy along the Columbia River so be prepared to adjust your speed in the event you run into strong winds. On occasion we've dropped down to around 50 through some stretches due to a stronger crosswind.

You have at least a 6% or more climb out of baker to N. Powder through Ladd canyon, a 6-7% climb out of LaGrand to pendelton,
The best way to PIR is not to Columbra blvd Take 205 N. to Marine dr. W. That will put you right at PIR. Do not get on I-5. Go around behind Mult. county Expo center. You will come out right at the entry gate at PIR. Trucks do it, you will no problems on those rds.

You can't get to Marine Drive from I-205 in either direction, unless you get off at Airport Way East and do some monkeying around.
Exit I-84 at exit #17 it is well marked for Marine drive. Then what laj said.
Ladd Canyon there is a 5 mile 6% downgrade in the area of MM 271. Ladd is always much more exciting in the winter.
About the MM 252 there will be a 3 mile pull that is about 5%.
At the 227 yardstick you will have the infamous Cabbage Hill. 6 miles downgrade at 6%. Several 45 mph corners.

I actually sent him a better way to avoid most traffic lights and messing around.
Take the troutdale exit off I-84 and hop on the end of marine dr. follow that to the expo center. Good 50mph road way less hassle.

Thanks
Fine info and I thank you all. I'll look at my maps and GPS systems to get comfortable with the routing. I had thought of some options but forgot about Marine Drive. Many decades ago, even before construction of the 205, I worked out of a business in Sandy just off Marine Drive. Anything to get of the Banfield/minefield!
Cheers all and Happy celebrations of our founding.

I understand the City lowered the speed limit on Marine Drive recently and stepped up enforcement.
"Banfield Minefield." LOL. It is a cakewalk compared to Nampa to Boise.
