Bridge Closure in Louisville, KY
HEADS UP!!
There has been an ongoing bridge project on I-65 through Louisville, KY for the past few years. The new bridge is open but the old bridge will be closing for repairs starting the morning of Jan 19th. Southbound traffic will be moved to the new Lincoln Bridge.
The main impact will be no access ramps from I-65 south to I-64 & I-71. Traffic will need to continue south to E I-264 (Watterson Expressway) to I-64 or continue to I-71. Another option is from South I-65 in Indiana take I-265 to I-64 East then into Louisville. They are claiming that signage will be up but as we've found out, signs may appear too late for big RVs in traffic.
Ramps to I 64 & I 71 are expected to open in July of 2016.

Thanks for the information. Once all construction is complete, the new bridge will be an EZ-pass-electronic only, toll bridge according to the KY website.
So for our location, using I 69S to I24E or I 64E, then to I 65S (destination dependent) has become our route South. We used to drive IN 37S to US 150, to I 64 E to avoid the construction; pre I 69.

Interesting point. In my past life, I used to be on a team that designed traffic control systems for road construction in my state. We would always strive to design them so the "Sunday Driver" could navigate the construction zones both day and night, but not overwhelm the average driver with too much information. It was a very fine line. Once we had the signage/lane closures in place we would invite our spouses and neighbors to drive the area and tell us what they thought. That was a real eye opener! I always figured if Sharon could make it through without hitting anything it must have been well signed!
I was also on a team that would investigate vehicle accidents in construction zones to see if something we designed was to confusing, just plain failed to convey the message correctly or maybe wasn't constructed correctly.
I wrote all of that just to say, If you are confused about a location in a construction zone, I would invite you to voice your concerns to the Transportation Cabinet. "Back in the day", we would read each and every persons input and if warranted we would make adjustments to our systems.

There has been some discussion of this in another thread. If I remember correctly, a Kentucky EZ-Pass comes with a monthly maintenance fee, while one from Indiana has no fee other than the funds you load into it.

George, I opted to buy an EZ-pass from Illinois instead of my home state Indiana. ILL does not charge a maintenance fee, Indiana does/or did at that time.

Too late to edit my post. Here is the Indiana EZ pass terms and conditions pdf. Illinois calls it the I-pass, which works everywhere EZ-pass is accepted.
