CA89S from Truckee to So. Lake Tahoe, then US50 to Carson City
DW and I may find ourselves "crewing" for our son early September next year as he does an ultra around Lake Tahoe. I've been looking at potential camping stops and think I may spend a few days (if I can get reservations) in Meeks Bay on the westside of the lake, and then head to Carson City for a few more days on the eastside to finish out the race. When I plot the route on RVTW (we’re traveling there from a stop in Salt Lake City), it sends me south along CA-89 from I-80 to get to Meeks Bay, then continuing south to the junction with US-50 in So. Lake Tahoe, where I then head north on US-50 to the Carson City area. As I look at the route, there is a section of CA-89 that lies between Emerald Bay and Cascade Lake that has two really tight switchback turns. RVTW doesn't blink an eye at that section of road (the road itself look really good), but I wonder if at 36' (21' wheelbase) those turns are going to force me into the opposing lanes of traffic. I'd appreciate it if anyone familiar with that area can give me their impressions of that area of the road. I haven't seen any other points of concern other than that. Thanks in advance.
Edit) One other question. I noticed there are "Share the Road" signs on CA-89. Are there a lot of bicyclists that travel this road?
