Camp Verde, AZ to Albuquerque, Mid April
Hello All,
Traveling from Camp Verde, AZ to Albuquerque, NM around April 10th. Was thinking of 17 to Flagstaff and 40 over to Albuquerque. I am concerned about snow & elevation. Or the way I came 10 to Tucson/ Las Cruces and 25 to Albuquerque. Open to thoughts and suggestions. I am a Newbie unfamiliar with these areas. 43’DP pulling Grand Cherokee.
Thank You!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Use one of the weather apps to keep an eye on the current conditions. Usually the southern route is the safest in the winter months. We just went thru Flagstaff to Albq. The was some snow on the ground but the roads were clean and dry. We sometimes get our last snowfall around Easter, but it won’t last long. The weather here in Albq looks good for the next 9 days.

I-17 N to I-40 E -------6 hrs 380 miles
I-17 S to 1-10 E to I-25 N.......10 hrs 675 miles
Personally...I would rather do the 6 hr drive vs the 10 hr drive
Drive time does not include---rest stops, potty breaks, lunch breaks etc

Just check the weather forecast from Flagstaff to Albuquerque before taking off and then make your decision. I'd take I-40.

flagstaff just got 3 feet of snow over the last few days. but that being said the temperatures are forecast to be in the 50's and 60's for the foreseeable future. i'd plan on taking i-17 to i-40. just listen to the weather forecasts and adjust if necessary. you'll be fine.

3 feet ???

You could also do a weather history search for the timeframe you're leaving to get a general idea of past years.

If you do decide on the southern route, dont go all the way to Las Cruces to hit 25. Cut over from Deming and catch 25 at Hatch.

We just came through Flag about two weeks ago, right after that big winter storm hit. Even then it was fine. On a motorcycle? Yeah check the weather, 50 with hail is not so awesome on a bike and you can get that in the middle of the summer. On an RV? Fuggedaboudit, just go.
There's nothing fundamentally wrong with the 40, it's actually in halfway decent shape east of Flag to Albuquerque. Not terribly uninteresting if you've never been that way before. Plenty of fuel and camping sites. On the other hand, looping through Las Cruces via 10 strikes me as unnecessary torture.

Depends on Snow elevation and area. There is a route from Verde Valley to Winslow.
Hwy 260 to 87
Another route is 260 to 377 to I40 at Holbrook 260 is mostly 4 lane now except thru Forest Lakes. 87 & 377 are good, paved 2 lane roads
Watch the weather.
