Headed to Estes, traveling on 1-80 , is I-39 to I-90 still the best way to avoid Chicago?

Thanks

it's not the only way but it is the best way...and shortest with the least amount of tolls and potential traffic. you'll have one toll booth on I-80 as you enter Illinois and expect Illinois traffic until you get past I-355... maybe not until you get past I-55. should be about a 90-min run from the state line to I-39 and another ~90-min to the Wisconsin line. I-39 has no tolls but i can't recall if you'll have one when you pick up I-90.

39 to 90 will be your best bet for bypassing Chgo. But why I90? I80 is a more direct route to Estes.

My mistake, I am taking 80, my mind remembered last time I went to Sturgis , that I took the bypass around Chgo.

Another reason to bypass Chicago, there have been 65 shootings on Chicago area expressways this year. The latest on I-94 at 11:15 AM put a 10 month old baby in hospital in critical condition. Jim.
