Smile CO Hwy 287 Fort Collins to Laramie Wy

All,

Our current plans are to take us from Fort Collins to Laramie Wy around the 13th of September (headed to YSP). I drove that road many years ago but time has eroded that memory....

We have an 38 ft Itasca Meridian diesel pusher with a toad....

How is Hwy 287 to drive? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks
Dennis

Your route is fine - where are the next way Points? Dubois? Cody?

The drive into the Tetons on RT 26 is awesome!

The drive up to Cody will take you through Shoshonni and Thermopolis - with the Wind River Canyon between them. Hard to not just love the route you take.

Best of Luck,

From the 'Mountain Directory for Truckers & RVers' - highly recommended, by the way:

"This road begins to climb as soon as you leave Ft. Collins and head north toward Laramie. The climb continues until you are 5 miles north of the Wyoming state line. Most of the time the climb is mild but as you near the state line there are rolling hills with 5-6% climbs and descents but they are short. The road is good two lane with 65 mph speed limit and good shoulders. There is almost always a climbing lane when needed. Strong wind warnings are posted between the state line and Laramie. Since it is a shorter route than I-25, expect heavy traffic."

Therefore.... it's a good road for RVers. Have a good trip!

Made that drive in 2016, nice road overall, no real long climbs, as I recall somewhat scenic and overall light traffic when we were there, though I vaguely recall it being on a Saturday.

Thank You

All,

Appreciate your input.

We will be headed to Jackson for a few days, then up thru the South entrance to stay at Madison campground for a bit then over to Driftwater RV cg - then over to Idaho to fish some of the waters there - then back to Houston (Alvin).....

Thanks again for the info.
