We are heading down on 12/17. Definetely want to stay off I95 in SC. Which is probably the least amount of small town traffic/better driving conditions in your opinions. Columbia to I95 using 321 or Orangeburg to I95 using 301? Thanks

Haven’t used 321 all the way from Columbia, but have taken 301/601/321 might be a faster route through Orangeburg. Traffic on 321 near Columbia is slow with lots of stops, and it’s a long trip if you’re taking it all the way from Columbia. We make multiple trips each year to FL through Columbia. The road condition of I-95 has gotten so bad that, we’ve sworn off it. Last trip, we thought we had bent an axle. No, but damaged a trailer tire, and we had to use our spare. Unfortunately, no easy fix for damage to kidneys and dental-work. Also I-95 can be very congested, because nobody wants to drive in the right lane (where your rig gets damaged), and if you move to the right, it can take many miles before you can merge to the left lane again.

Thanks Marine359. Last time on I-95 swore no more unless absolutely necessary. We had stuff thrown everywhere and again was wondering what it was doing to the RV plus nerve wrecking. Looked at 301/601/321 and it does look like a better route. Hope y'all have a Merry Christmas.

301 from Columbia to Hardeeville is a pleasant drive. It goes through some small towns, but the towns do not present any navigational problems. I view the 321 route as much better than the 301 route.

I just took the 321 near Columbia to 301 then 301 to Ocala and it is smooth sailing. Some slow downs going thru small towns but much of it traveled at 65. If anyone stays on 301, about 14 miles south of Claxton there is a small campground called Catfish Creek that consists of 10 full hookup sites in the guys front yard for,$20 night if you need to stop.

Wow more great information. We are going close to Ocala. Looks like we will have to try one route going and another coming back. Thanks for all the great info. Will stop overnight as not pushing it.
Marine359, we just sold my DW's house in between Hendersonville and Brevard this past summer. Really nice area just had obligations down here in the foothills.

Ben & Jo,
The area where your home was is very nice. When we retired and moved to the area 8 years ago, we came close to buying in Mills River, but found the right place for us Leicester, about 10 miles NW of Asheville. Hope you have a safe and enjoyable trip to points south. We leave for Key West in early January.

Coming to Key West in January, make sure you fuel on Marathon before coming further south. Diesel prices on Monday was $4.83/gal. and here in Key West it is $5.19/gal... On the NAS it is $4.99/gal. We are now sitting at Sigsbee, we spent a week at Jolly Rogers RV Resort, then came down here for the next 2 weeks.
There is new fuel station currently being built in Marathon, I think it is right down the road from Home Depot on the right. Great thing I saw, was there going to be separate fuel stations in the rear. I am assuming this is for large trucks, RV, etc....
Not sure, which station, but the wife thinks it is going to be a Race Track station by the colors.

Did you have to sit in overflow at Sigsbee before being assigned a FHU site?

No, I booked a FHU when I called. I asked them about that when I checked in. The reply was you booked a FHU site and that is what I got.
Not sure what the office refers to, but apparently, I booked a FHU site.

I booked FHU as well, but the reservation confirmation came back with a disclaimer that I may have to sit in overflow until a FHU becomes available. Maybe no worry here, but it’ll work out fine either way as long as there is sun.
