Has anyone taken the ferry from Coupeville on Whidbey Island, WA to Port Townsend, in a 40 foot MH plus towed?

If so, how did it go?

Looking to do it in late July. Seems it will save much fuel vs driving all the way around.

You will not have a problem. I have not taken my class A over yet but live in the area and see large rigs and semis on there all the time.

If you tow 4 down, unkook the toad and load it separately. It will save some money. Be sure to get reservations.

If you have time, spend some time in historic Coupeville and the surrounding Ebey's Historic Reserve. We live it here.

Yeah, we did that about eighteen months ago. No problems.

A couple of points: -reservations required on that route for large vehicles; -as others have said , you'll save a few bucks by detaching. Fares are online, you can decide if the unhook/rehook exercise is worth it for you. Frankly, I didn't bother; -be aware, at the very low periods of the tide cycle (i.e., a few times per year) they sometimes have to cancel a trip due to vessel draught considerations. That ferry runs every 45 min., about 16 times per day, and its only about a 15-20 minute run, so its rarely a big deal.

It's routinely used by tractor/trailer rigs, so you shouldn't have a problem. The Ferry System got new ships on that route a couple of years ago.

Just check the local media for possible cancellations due to low tides. The approach to Coupeville is tricky at low water. Cancellation is only usually one round trip.

We occasionally will have a day out in PT and go as walk-on passengers, leaving the car at the Coupeville terminal.
