Crossing Death Valley

With a 40' Class A with toad, is it easier to cross from California to Nevada or Nevada to California?

I would say easiest is Nevada to California. Depending on whether you take 190 all of the way or 347 to 190 then 190 west the downhill will be either hardly noticeable or, with 374, big, wide and easy to navigate. then you will take the narrower and trickier hill going up which is easier than down. Either way use the gears going up and down both to save the brakes and engine. The heat can be wicked. If you have any question about your ability to handle hills or heat then get them sorted out ahead of time. Some used to drop the toad and drive it separately. We never had a problem ourselves though. Have fun!
We hope to go there next month if they reopen. We love the place.

you can exit Death Valley to the south, via Baker, and you will already be past the monster Baker Grade to the east. Go Vegas up to either Beatty and west into DV where you can still see some of the sights on the north/central end. Then exit to Baker and turn west on 15 to the rest of SoCal.

It really doesn't matter as you are going to go up, down and around going either direction.

Afternoon sun coming through the windshield would be a consideration too.

JMHO; West to East
Went through in a car with no A/C , @ 117 degrees , back when I was young and foolish.
